Asus Zenith Extreme Alpha - 32GB DIMMS - 256GB supported ?

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the Asus Zenith Extreme Alpha board supports 32GB DIMMS modules?

I'm looking at populating it with 256GB of ram but the modules are 32GB DIMMS

Corsair Vengeance LPX 256GB (8x 32GB) DDR4 2400MHz Memory Black - CMK256GX4M8A2400C16

Thanks in advance 🙂

EDIT:

So no one knows? At all?

I logged a ticket with Asus and got just a token reply saying 'the website says...'

Pretty disappointing response from Asus really. I had hoped they could have at least asked a technical representative to look at the question rather than just regurgitate something that is on the website from way back when the board was released

Hi,

According to support Asus Zenith Extreme Alpha runs on following 32GB memory sticks.

  • Corsair CMK64GX4M2C3000C15(Ver5.49)(XMP) DDR4 3000 2x32GB
  • Corsair CMK64GX4M2D3000C16(Ver3.40)(XMP) DDR4 3000 2x32GB
  • Hyper X HX430C16FB3K4/128(XMP) DDR4 3000 4x32GB
  • Hyper X HX432C16FB3K4/128(XMP) DDR4 3000 4x32GB
  • Corsair CMV32GX4M1A2666C18 DDR4 3000 4x32GB
  • Crucial CT32G4DFD8266.16FB1 DDR4 3000 4x32GB
  • SK Hynix HMAA4GU6AJR8N-VK DDR4 3000 8x32GB
  • SL LINK J4BGUS2G8QHBC DDR4 3000 4x32GB
  • Team TED432G2666C19BK DDR4 3000 4x32GB

From my personal experience I can tell it runs also on HX426C16FB3K4/128.

I also can confirm that multiplying memory stick set to have all 8 sockets filled with identical 32GB ram sticks giving sum of 256GB memory works. I've installed two sets of HX426C16FB3K4/128 and it works like a charm giving me total of 256GB memory. All works stable for over a week.

Best regards,
Dawid

Any changes to defaults bios settings? I have bought 256gb of 3200mhz and am running it ok at 2666, except when I try to do a render in maya after a few frames I get a black screen, and a some very odd codes in the board oled display none of which make much sense.*

Well got to the bottom of my issues, it's a bit odd, all my monitoring software showed 256gb ram, I just happened to load up the system page, where it showed windows only detected 128gb ram. So checked msconfig and sure enough the ram was set to a fixed 128gb size, so change value back to 0 and system now running perfect with Corsair 32gb sticks running at 2666 at mo. They are rated to 3200 but honestly not expecting to be able to run them at that.* Well I thought I had, mostly works ok, then get these AA codes which have no explanation in the user guide. Looks like I will have to settle for 128gb or go to the 3960x. Update for anyone who is interested. using 4 of the 32gb sticks at 3200mhz is 100% stable, which I could find out how to make all 8 stable.

im running a ryzen 2970wx on my zenith extreme alpha - i just installed the corsair lpx 128gb 8x16 2666mhz kit and the system has it locked at 2133mhz - also DOCP does not work now - DOCP worked before on the corsair vengeance pro rgb 64gb 8x8 kit i previously had installed and was able to oc no problem - i cant even get this 128gb kit to run at oem rated speeds. any help is much appreciated. thank you

Hey wolfyshark,

I have the 1950X and an Zenith Extreme. From my experience, I couldn't overclock 128GB's to 3200MHz on my motherboard. I've tried numerous ways to figure it out but it's impossible. I did however without any issues reach 3200MHz using 64GB's with D.O.C.P settings. It wasn't as stable so I had to revert back to 2666MHz. What you can do is set manually memory frequency to 2933MHz in the BIOS. Your processor supports that speed by default so whether it's 128BG's or 256GB's, it will work like a charm. I'm thinking that these motherboards are very sensitive to higher frequencies other than recommended stock speed's.

A late reply but I wanted to say thank you for your post and taking the time to post details 🙂

You probably won't be able to get it to run any faster It’s not uncommon for the motherboards to run the DRAM slower when using more slots at a higher capacity. So doubling the amount of memory on your system by adding higher capacity DRAM modules can actually reduce your overall memory throughput. If you do buy more memory, it’s best to do so on as few modules as possible. I have also read on the forums of people having dramas with these boards with certain cpus https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?115888-Zenith-II-Extreme-Four-Channel-RAM-Issue
