CH VII & 3900X high vcore in BIOS
Hi, I've just bought a 3900X and a Crosshair VII Hero WiFi. Just turn it on for the first time and the vcore in BIOS is always 1,4-1,47 v. All is set to auto, just default settings. Is It normal?
Thanks in advance.Last edited by wolfgang91; 09-03-2019 at 02:59 PM.

Yes, it is normal. Don't bother, it's more interesting what happens in Windows!

Short answer as xeizo said
.
Long answer, the CPU will not idle in UEFI the same as it does in OS. If you had a wall plug meter, you'd see complete system could be pulling ~120W, where as idle in OS is ~60W.
UEFI is a mini OS, CPU boosts in UEFI, so you see voltages for that context. In my opinion Ryzen FW/UEFI is not optimised for that case, so just ignore, use the UEFI to set settings, not for sitting in and watching...

Its an ASUS thing. I have crosshair Viii hero wifi and second ssystem with asrock x570 pro4.
On asrock idle voltages are miles better than asus in windows. I guess pushing things too much is an asus thing. Asus board will idle in 1.4v mostly, yes it does dip to sub 1v but lot less than asrock board. My averages are always 1.4v. I am talking identical setup other than the CPU 3600 vs 3900x in the Asus setup. But still my asrock averages in 1.0**** volts in idle vs asus 1.4v volts average in windows. They both have ABB version of bios. I think ASUS quality in bios has gone to ****. Voltages are all over the place. I have the same drivers, same version of windows and same amount of ram.
Yes under load asus voltages will go down but idle is a whole different beast.
