    Which ROG Z390 mobo is the best for running DDR4 4000+ CL17 Mem ?

    Hello,

    is one mobo better for extreme mem oc than the others?

    Maximus
    Hero
    Formula?

    Or are they all the same and it is only cpu/mem controller related?

    Any Board in the Lineup can manage what you try to archieve.

    IF you want to go waay beyond the specs you have mentioned there are two boards that stand out:
    The Maximus XI Extreme of course with E-ATX format. It is available.
    The Maximus XI Apex with ATX format is the best RAM overclocker. It is not available everywhere.

    I remember that the old Apex boards should be better in ram oc.

    ! Beware of the DIMM.2 SSD placement . It makes installing a NH-D15 with two fans tricky, but not impossible.
    Maybe you will take some APEX cover plasic off (which takes one screw more than one would think).
    Maybe you will also get rid of the VRM heatsink simply because the NH-D15 is heavy enough and the VRM-heatsink is really not needed (33 to 37C in idle).

    BTW: the DDR4-4000 CL17 Kit is a 4 sticks kit so it wont fit into the apex ^^

    Because of the problem with Apex DIMM2 & Noctua NH-D15S i go for the extreme mobo.
