Does anyone know of a guide that has step by step instructions on how to install an SSD on a G74? I've looked around on Google and havent come across anything good? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does this help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWoQl4RaDtk ?

or this: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?3652-G74SX-A1-Second-Hard-Drive-Install-(SSD)?

Here's another with photos and Brody's excellent guidance: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?9073-Adding-SSD-to-G74SX&

I've read good things about Corsairs. That's a good size option, SATA III, nice price. Looks good to me.

It can be. You also have the option of restoring a Windows System Image to the SSD as Brody elaborates in: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?8618-G74SX-XN1-SSD-installation&

If it were me, I'd be doing the clean Win 7 install...

Just so I'm clear on this--the easiest way to do a clean Win 7 install is with the Win 7 installer download linked to in the first post in the Drivers/Apps/How-tos thread, right?

And I activate it with the product key on the bottom of my laptop I assume.

Yes, this is correct. But it's not as simple as just installing Windows and calling it done. There are additional drivers you also need to install. Are you doing a clean install onto a new SSD?

I opted to install to my SSD fresh, rather than an image, just to be safe. With the Vortex 3 I didn't need to do anything different than I would when installing on an HDD. I've been running for about two months with zero issues. Before installing, I did plan to update the firmware for the SSD, but it was already up-to-date. I don't use hibernation, which some have claimed issues with, so I don't know if that'd work or not. I disabled the file page about a month after I'd been using the SSD, but I didn't have any issues with it before.

End point: I installed Win7 x64 on a Vortex 3 SSD the exact same way I'd install it on an HDD, and I've had no issues.

Did you already do your clean install? If so, you can move that installation onto the SSD, if you'd like.

But if you haven't done your clean install yet, you can easily install the SSD (as described earlier), and then do the clean install onto it exactly as you would on an HDD. (In this scenario, the new SSD will appear as one block of unallocated space in the Windows Setup partition table.)

I havent done my clean install yet so I'll wait till my SSD arrives and then I will do the install. thanks to everyone on this forum you are all amazing!!! Also would all SSDs fit/work in the g74sx?
