what is this new setting Always 3D Clock in GPU TweakII

I installed the latest GPU Tweak II v2.0.9.0 and I noticed there is a setting for "Always 3D Clock" which is either enabled or disabled. What does this do?
I did notice that when I enabled it the GPU Clock went from 1500 to about 1400MHz so is this only what it does? CHeers and TIA

so I guess nobody knows what this setting does?

For me “Always 3D Clock” is similar to NVIDIA Power management mode/Prefer maximum performance, but NVIDIA maximizes the GPU base clock and memory clock.

Anyway, for me when “Always 3D Clock” is enabled it maximizes the GPU boost clock and memory clock (ensure your GPU overclock is stable before applying).

Always 3D Clock = on.

Always 3D Clock = off (Note: NVIDA maintains set memory clock and defaults to GPU base clock, but not boost clock)

Always 3D Clock =off, NVIDIA Power Management mode/Optimal Power.

@ PNDIODE thank you so much for such a detailed reply, i think i understand now and it makes sense. i guess that's why when i enabled it my clock went down some, probably coz i had it set too high= unstable? where in your case your clock appears to increase when enabling always 3D hmmm.....
