G750JS-DS71 SSD Upgrade?

Tchail

Hello Everyone,

I've recently been trying to upgrade the SSD in my ROG G750JS-DS71 from the 256Gb that the unit shipped with to a SanDisk 1Tb SSD.

I tried cloning the driving using EaseUSTodo Backup-Free, but I can't seem to get my laptop to recognize the cloned drive as the boot drive - Even after going into the BIOS and rearranging the boot order.

I "was" able to successfully upgrade the 1Tb mechanical drive with a new 2Tb drive. However the problem I ran into was that the new mechanical drive retained the drive letter it used during the cloning process. But once I reset the drive letter from "F:" to "D:", everything has worked fine since.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get my laptop to recognize a replacement SSD?

Any help would be appreciated.

1. You should replace both drives with SATA III SSDs like Samsung models listed below:

https://www.newegg.com/samsung-860-evo-series-1tb/p/N82E16820147673

2. Purchase a cheap USB to SATA adapter like listed below:

https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16812119874?Description=usb%20to%20sata%20adapter&cm_re=usb_to_sata_ada...

3. Remove the secondary drive from your laptop.

4. Install the USB to SATA adapter to an available USB slot.

5. Attach the new SATA SSD to the USB to SATA adapter.

6. Download a free copy (30 day trial download) of Macrium Reflect software from:

https://www.macrium.com/products/home

7. Install Macrium Reflect on your OS drive and use it to copy your existing OS drive to your new one. Then simply switch OS drives and reinstall your secondary drive.

If this procedure is above your level of expertise, then please take it to a local technician for completion.

Good Luck
