G751JY - Serious BIOS operations - advice needed on nvme, usb fix, uefi win 10 instal

First of all - i`ve searched forum and I seek some up-to-date advice

I owe G751JY bought in Poland.
It`s model with i7 4860HQ (no integrated video card), system specification from system info down below - its in polish language but you can determine what is what pretty easy

intel wireless adapter totaly disabled in bios - using usb tplink wifi card

bios up-to-date
MS windows licence is 100% legal (it is transfered to G751JY form my previos samsung laptop, it used to be win 7 pro x64 - i`ve uprgaded it to 8.1 WHILE transfering to ROG - achieved that by phone conversation with microsoft)
in G751JY my 8.1 key was upgraded to Win 10 pro

I`ve NEVER had any pirated windows since buying the unit.

my current hard disk layout is:
main bay - ssd evo pro
extra bay - ssd patriot
optical drive caddy - SSHD hybrid drive seagate firecuda

What I want to do, is replace main bay ssd with m.2 nvme support

I`m basing on THIS topic

Also I`ve noticed some guide for fixing usb LINK TO TOPIC

And I`ve seen some guide for proper installing windows 10 with uefi support LINK HERE

So it seems that wise would be perform all of these operations at once am I correct?

Is there any more hotfixes for G751 JY adviced to perform?

Using a modded BIOS on a laptop that does not have native NVMe support is risky at best. Ive seen folks get it to work but never achieve the speeds they should. The G751 series was just released at a turning point in SSD technology. Native is AHCI M2 that are hard to come by anymore. Less than 6 months after the release comes the NVMe and even the G752VY had issues at first where its supposedly fully supported and first BIOS came out with raid0 enabled and no way to turn it off. I ordered a 512GB SSD NVMe machine and about crapped myself when I opened it up and there were 2 256GB drives in raid0. Whats there in the link you have already been through is about all there is and its hit or miss and Ive not seen anyone acheive the full NVMe speeds.

just to share info for future generations:

i`ve managed to pretty easy force nvme support using step by step guide found on these forums.

but i encounter some strange uefi related issues now, i cannot restart pc, it will switch off an boot up normally, but restart procedure hangs, the pc cannot power off, screen, keyboard lights switch off, but fans are working and it hangs on that state

also touchpad device physical buttons wont work and tapping on touchpad will not work as left or right click. so i`ve disconnected it physically

also for your info - my battery is physically removed from system, it was completely dead i`ve worked without it for a year or sth

i`ve made a lot of research in internet and asked a friend for an advice

it seems that i`ve messed up some stuff in past and present

what i`ve lost for sure is stock uefi keys (as i call them i`ve changed drives so many times and all partitons from stock drive are of course gone

stock drive - physically i should have the unit somewhere

what i`ve messed during uefi clean install is that install was made with other hdd in system - i`ve disconected drives from bays but forgot that my storage sshd is sitting in optical caddy bay...

and i think windows made some stupid sh*t out of that

i tried to fix efi partition using windows 10 uefi booted stock win 10 installer (created via media creation tool)

but it says it cannot fix the stuff, he makes logfile and inform me that log is in E:\windows\system32... wait? E:? of course log is in C:\windows ... inside log E: is also mentioned

various problems occur form that messed up state.

can you provice me with some advice in my situation?

currently i cannot restart windows, use tochpad, install some asus soft (like splendid) and generally i feel that this instability will make me angry one day.

is there is a way that i can keep the system and data and fix all of that mess?

NVME is not natively supported on this chipset. Ive not seem anyone get it to work as expected even after BIOS mod as there is no NVME controller on board.

i do understand that nvme is not natively supported and can bring some issues.

but the issues i`m currently encountering - i believe some can be resolved with proper partition layout.

@3m2oo5 - m8... I read the thread...
first, let me just say that what you're trying to accomplish is something that is rarely done, if at all successfully at the end.
due to the advance nature of the "project", we have to isolate each problem and preferably describe the issues as much accurate as possible ( w/o the added story of non-relevant bygone history ).

AFAIU, You currently have G751JY, with 3 HDD/SSD slots ( one of them is instead of the dvd ) and 1 M.2 NVME stick. ( gpu, cpu, ram don't care about it right now - not relevant ).
AFAIU, you already embedded the NVME module into the bios, and flashed that modded bios so the UEFI is able to communicate with a NVME devices.
AFAIK, you can verify it by accessing the "bios" menu - there should be some indication ( you might need to further mod the UEFI/bios and open some hidden menu screens...there are guides for that on the web and in this forum as well ).

As detailed in my UEFI installation guide, when you install windows 7/8/10 ( no matter the edition/release/ver) onto a storage device ( the tech the hdd/ssd is using, i.e AHCI/NVME is NOT relevant right now ) onto a PC the use UEFI ( i.e *not* while emulating BIOS, so "CSM" option should be DISBLED ) - at the bare min you should have:

1. At least 1 storage device formatted with file-layout of GPT ( NOT MBR !) ( I guess you want it to be the NVME ).
2. At least 3 partitions on that GPT layout-formatted drive that you install the OS into:
   
   • EFI ( where the EFI BOOT MANAGERS sits) - MUST be formatted at FAT32.
   • MSR ( reserved for GPT filesystem operations ) - MUST be formatted as MSR
   • OS partition ( where windows actually sits... the "C" drive ) - MUST be formatted as NTFS.

Now, AFAIU, you want to install windows into the NVME drive ( although it might not be the fastest drive in the system, as a good AHCI SSD with sata connector might still out-perform m.2 NVME on the G751 serie ).
so if you've done all that req I mention just above - you SHOULD see the NVME storage in the windows's installation screen ( at is if your windows inc NVME built-in drivers or that you've loaded such NVME drivers when you boot the windows installation disk ).

If you manually make the above 3 partitions onto the NVME BEFORE you load the windows installation setup ( i.e through CMD / 3rd party OS like ubuntu etc.. ) - you shouldn't have any issues loading the OS after the installation finishes.
To make sure installation is fine - make sure BEFORE YOU START WINDOWS INSTALLATION - that the UEFI do NOT "see" any boot drives, i.e that you do NOT have any boot options but dvd / usb stick. ( this step is necessary to be sure that you don't mistakenly boot another drive's boot manager and another OS ).

It is possible to fix a windows that seems installed onto a drive other then "C".... but it requires loading regedit from recovery environment ( i.e the installation disk ).
Then you load from current system the "real" windows installation by loading a hive, look here for the registry place to change and which registry to load ( switch the letters of the current "C" drive with the intended "real C" drive), then unload the hive and reboot.

next, you can already see that disk 2 was used for windows instalation and this is correct.

dunno why in minitool partition wizard disk are numbered 1 - 2 - 3 -4 (4 is external usb with winows installer) while disk part call them 0 - 1 - 2 - 3...

i can see that i do have efi fat 32 partiotion

can I assume that uefi keys (as i call them ) were recreated and replaced the ones that were initially on asus oem recovery partition?

the stuff that I`ve spoken (weird windows log location indicator) I can show You in log from attempt to fix boot problem (via windows uefi booted usb installer)

edit: and for your information - i`ve tested my drives with crystaldisk and 2m nvme is flawless in its results.

also i can FEEL that its 2-3 times faster and more effiecient that my previus sata SSD
