Sabertooth Z77 - Fastest (working) RAM?

Vaietzi

The lists of supported RAM modules on ASUS.com for this mtb are outdated. However I've read on other forums about people using other modules for this mtb that are not even in these lists. What are the fastest & working modules for the Sabertooth Z77? Anybody with experience?

What are the essentials when it comes to upgrading your RAM? Do you have to stick to the given supported list? If my CPU can only handle max. 1600MHz RAMs on paper, would a 2400MHz or faster module affect the CPU's speed or would it have to be overclocked separately?

Thanks for the help!

i could not get past 2133 no matter what i did or what cpu / ram combo i did with a 2700k and a 2600k . 2133 was the most i could get
Rig # 1 - 14900K SP-115 | 87 MC @ 6.0 GHZ | 5.1 R | 4.5 E | DDR5 48GB @ 8,400 c36 | Strix RTX 4090 | XG27AQN 1440P 27" 360 Hz G-Sync ULMB 2

Rig # 2 - 13900KS-SP-120 | 80 MC @ 5.8 GHZ | 5.0 R | 4.5 E | DDR4 32GB @ 4,300 c15 | Strix RTX 3080 | Aoc 1080P 25" 240 Hz G-Sync

Hey, thanks for your reply. Could it be because those i7's are 2nd gen. and by default they can only handle 1333MHz at most?

What RAM's were you using?

i was using the g.skill trident 2 x8 gb 2133 cl-11 red kit . 2133 was stable on my 2700k @ 4.8 ghz though , i tried 4 diffrent kits tha twere rated for 2400 mhz and nope . not even 2200 . 2133 tops . 2400 mhz was for the 4700k / 4790 k . i read around and i didnt even find a user who hasd 2400 mhz ram stable on 3770k .

i would go for 2133 and tighten them up or get a expensive 2400 mhz g.skill trident x kit from amazon there beauty 2400 cl-10 or cl-11 the red sexy heat syncs are nice get those and drop to 2133 and tighten them ?

I did some research and I successfully overclocked my current RAM. Their factory tested speed is 1600MHz, 8-8-8-24 @1.50V (XMP). For me they topped at 2400MHz, 11-12-11-36 @1.60V stable, the difference is noticeable, temperatures (thanks to their giant heat sinks) are well within the limits (51-54°C @24°C room temp.). MaxxMEM2 measured an almost 3GB/s avg. difference in data transfer and the latency deviation was significant too. If you care, I can share some screenshots later. Question is how much would a 24/7 overclock like this reduce the lifespan of these RAM's, although their box states that they were designed for overclocking. I'm not too worried about the mtb as it is known to be the boss of all overclocking as far as I'm concerned.

is this with a 4th gen intel cpu or a 3rd gen 2nd gen intel ?

Intel i5-3570K, 3rd gen.
(I cannot install 4th gen or above in the Z77 Sabertooth as it has the LGA1155 socket)
