AC Adapter Compatibility

Hey, guys. I was wondering about two particular AC Adapters, as I am trying to replace/upgrade my stock 150W one.

First one is this: http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=4617
It's the 180W adapter that Asus sells. It says it's compatible with the G70 series. I was wondering if G74SX would be compatible as well? If not, is there a way to attach a pin onto that thing? Or plug it into something which then I plug a G74 pin into? :S

It's the 230W adapter that Asus sells. Same deal as the one above.

Third one, which seems to be Universal: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0048O552M/sr=8-1/qid=1331259189/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=...
It does not state any compatibility with Asus laptops, though Chastity declares she (or he? Seriously, what's Chastity's gender?) uses that one, but Iunno what Asus rig they use, so for all I know, they could be using something other than the G74SX.

Suggestions? Advice? Reason I am upgrading is because I want to use ThrottleStop, but like a good boy, I am going to buy a better, more reliable AC Adapter before I use TS. :3

Any of those will work fine, though you may want to check about the 230W unit, which is 19.5V (whereas the stock G74 adaptor is 19V). I'm 95% certain the 0.5V extra is probably OK and within the G74's tolerance (I'm sure most adaptors of the same rating have a mean variance of +/-0.5V from unit to unit) but it is definitely worth consulting ASUS engineers first.
The 230W would be the most efficient, as you would be loading it to the ~50% capacity, where power supplies are best operated and produce the least amount of heat per Watt puled from the wall. But it would also be the heaviest and would probably be a pin to pack up and cart around with you in your backpack, should you be on the go with your notebook. But if you plan to park your G74 as a DTR, then I would go for the 230W (as long as I was assured that 19.5V is within spec).

Well, I have the stock backpack that came with the G74SX, so I don't really mind. If I ever travel with my laptop, I'd probably be driving somewhere, so it'd be at the backseat of the car anyway. So that won't be a problem. 😛

Also, the bottom of my AC adapter says 19.5V and 7.7A, not 19V. So the 230W is perfect in terms of voltage. But the thing I am worried about is whether or not the pin is going to fit.

Good news on the 230W unit then: that'd be my choice for a parked G74. May even consider this myself: thanks for the link!

As for the pin, its easy to hack off the ends of the PS and the old 150W unit, bare the wire ends, solder them together and put some heatshrink wrap over the connection and shrink it with a hair dryer.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to the proper tools and materials to be able to do that sort of thing.

Which one, the universal one or the one Asus sells? :S If the latter, then I wonder if the G70 has the same power port as the G74. If not, then probably the universal one.
