GL502VS problems replacing HDD with SSD

I have attempted to replace the larger of my two hard drives (an older style encased disc drive) with a Crucial 2tb ssd. I have used the manufacturer's cloning software to copy the contents of the previous drive onto the new one, but yet every time i insert the new drive and boot up, the system never initializes. Just a black screen. I think the laptop's keys light up...?

I would just love to have a smarter person's insight on this, especially now when it's so hard to have this stuff looked at in person, given the quarantine. Thanks!

I would recommend you keep the larger drive as it. If possible put ssd on another port say M.2 or dvd solt.
Or
Using extension casing box, insert newssd boot the laptop with hdd, once booted up, then clone the os to ssd.
Then remove hdd , replace ssd.
In my vivobook laptop, I am using two hdd 2tb , 1tb. And one ssd 250gb m.2. All are internally connected
