Just tried your advice kens30: no USB drives and optimized defaults in bios: still same results with SM and in DM
Actually, there were no USB drives connected to begin with.Last edited by timvdb; 04-08-2020 at 05:09 PM.

Try to re install chipset drivers from ASUS site.
Also if you have the Windows 10 installation usb boot from it get to the point where you choose custom installation and see if the drive is listed there.
When you have time you will to start with some basics as suggested before to check the drive on another pc to make sure it is not faulty.
or you can switch your nvme drives on your motherboard M.2_1 to M.2_2 and M.2_2 to M.2_1.

Hi Kens30 and all,
I tried your solution and also a solution suggested by ASUS support:
You should initiate a CMOS Reset and reinstall the System. Please make sure to deattach all Hardware components and put the the CMOS batterie the other way aroung into the Board and wait 5 minutes. Please then start the System with only the M.2.
I both cases:
both SSDs are recognized by BIOS
card 2 is recognized by the boot software in the windows customs installations stage
card 1 is not recognized at that same stage.
as I do not have another PC with NVMe capabilities, I have now ordered a NVMe to USB adapter to check my cards.
Thanks!

I just installed and launched AOMEI Partition Assistant and it detects both drives!!!
Disk M.2_1 as an unnamed *: disk. Basic GPT etc...
Shall I name and format the drive with AOMEI? Any risks that it is not then recognized by W10?

Problem solved
Hi all,
I solved the problem by reinitializing both SSDs with AOMEI and then reinstalling W10.
All is working now including Samsung Magician.
Thank you to all for your amazing support!
