Looking for advice on M2 SSD
Hi all,
New guy here, and making my second post. I have a somewhat outdated motherboard (Asus Maximus VIII Gene), but its still working great, and I'd like to add an M2 SSD to it. All the recommendations out there for this motherboard are from a few years ago, and there's probably better ones out there now, so I'd like to know if any of you have suggestions on what the best M2 option would be. Any advice would be much appreciated!
But here's the required rundown of what I have and what I'm looking for...
Budget: <$200
Main uses of intended build: Sim Racing
Parts required: M2 SSD that will work in my Maximus VIII Gene MB
Previous build information (list details of parts):
Thermaltake Core V21 case
Asus Maximus VIII Gene motherboard
Intel i5 6600 (overclocked 31%)
Corsair H100 V2 water Cooler
16GB ram (G.Skill TridentZ DDR4 3200)
Asus RTX2080 video card
Corsair LE SSD 240GB
Windows 10 64bit Home edition
Triple Asus monitors
Samsung Odessey+ VR headset
Monitor resolution:5760x1080
Storage requirements: At least 500GB
Will you be overclocking: yes
Any motherboard requirements: N/A
Extra information about desired system: Want reliable, easy to set up M2 SSD
Thank in advance!

Hi,
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards...pecifications/
Intel® Z170 chipset :
1 x M.2 Socket 3, with M Key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (both SATA & PCIE mode)*2
2 x SATA Express port, , Compatible with 4 x SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports
6 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s), gray
Support Raid 0, 1, 5, 10
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology supports*3
Supports Intel® Smart Response Technology*4
Any M-key
2242/2260/2280/22110 all these number refer to length where 2280 is most common that I use.
Best I've run into is samsung they seem to always hit or exceed read/ write spec's
Only bad thing is they get warm but all m.2 do that so add more to the budget for a heat sink for it 1tb 180.us
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-970-E..._t3_B07TJWZGL9
500gb usually good prices anywhere but do shop around gougers are always an issue
Check samsung website too.
Even gigabyte aorus have nice m.2 pretty fast too come with a heat sink aready 1tb a little out of your price range though at 250.00
152.us for 500gb
