ROG STRIX Z390-I very quiet microphone

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anybody else has this problem.

I have a SteelSeries headset which I'm plugging into the headphone and mic jack on the motherboard. The mic is VERY quiet, and people can barely hear me. I've used the Realtek Audio Console to change all sorts of settings, but nothing helps.

Edit: Yes, I've tried other headphones and cables, but the mic just isn't loud enough.

I have the latest drivers from the asus support site.

Any ideas?
