B450 and X470 Zen 3 does not support!

AMD, announced that the new Zen 3 processors will only support x570 and B550 motherboards. Obviously when buying this high-end motherboard, my expectation is the possibility of Zen 3 support. In other words, I thought that the last processor it supported would be Zen 3. But now I was disappointed too.

It is written that the bios rom capacities are insufficient. CH7 uses 256MB Rom. Hopefully it provides Zen 3 support for asus ch7.

Q: What about (X pre-500 Series chipset)?
A: AMD has no plans to introduce “Zen 3” architecture support for older chipsets. While we wish could enable full support for every processor on every chipset, the flash memory chips that store BIOS settings and support have capacity limitations. Given these limitations, and the unprecedented longevity of the AM4 socket, there will inevitably be a time and place where a transition to free up space is necessary—the AMD 500 Series chipsets are that time.

Yeah, although, according to the graph, X370 doesn't support Ryzen 3000 cpu's also, while clearly there are people with X370 mobo's paired with Ryzen 3000.

According to AMD, this is due to the flash memory chips’ limitations that does not have enough space to support a newer set of codes. The current 400-series chipsets already have support for every Ryzen generation so far, so perhaps AMD has stretched compatibility to its maximum.

This suggests it is possible but will come down to manufactures and the size of the flash memory chips. I would not give up hope yet.

I'm still hopeful. Support should come especially for the high level moba we have. The last CPU family

Maybe like Ryzen Dram Calculator or the old Intel BIOS that did not support RAID a modding scene will spring up if the manufacturers drop the ball.

This will need to be decided between ASUS and AMD. I hope ASUS stands behind their products and pushes AMD to release the AGESA code at least for the 32MB BIOS boards. There is no technical reason not to, only the question of resources and willingness to provide long term support.

Technically with AMDs help ASUS could branch the BIOS.

  • One BIOS for Zen 1 and 2 support.
  • One BIOS only for Zen 3 support.

As long as the motherboard in question supports BIOS flashback I don't really see the problem of going down this route.

Right decision. I'm glad 🙂 The community waited for this. Successes are AMD continue. Zen3 with X470 ROG Crosshair VII. Thanks.
