Wherever they place it, it will take space, and it will block something.
My beef with its M12E position isn't really that big. It prevents me from mounting the graphics card underneath, as its plate would sure heat up the AE-9 more than I am comfortable with.
Then again, yeah. While it being below the graphics card should be enough to give it a sufficient grip of the air, I wouldn't keep the graphics card that way anyway. I tried it! In terms of thermals, the graphics card is the hottest when it is mounted horizontally. The vertical mount is better. Being 'hovered' by thin steel parts outside the case gives the best thermals (no surprise there). I made that decision because I couldn't let it heat up all other components over the upcoming summer. Despite a rather strong airflow, the temps around the graphics card were rather high.
Ah yes, my conclusion... I spent so much time looking for a PCIe x1-x4 riser, to mount my sound card vertically inside the case. Nopes. Found nothing that I would feel is safe + aesthetic to use.
Purely aesthetically, the M12E's positioning of the PCIEX4 is imo better: it currently allows my AE-9 to act like a mirror for the mobo's OLED screen. It is a unique view.Last edited by martine-dee; 06-02-2021 at 09:52 PM.

Intel Core 11th
Hey guys,
Does anyone know if we owners of Strix Z490-G gaming/wifi (Micro-ATX) motherboards are getting 11th generation processor support?
Nothing in the new bios logs. However other z490 boards seem to be getting the update.
Thanks

Hi. I can't find evidence to current support for the 11th gen. There is not a single 11th gen CPU in the QVL:

If you could easily get hands on one to try, go ahead. Just don't keep your hopes high.Keep exploring, keep innovating, keep creating

New bios is out for Z490-E
Version 2201
2021/06/24 8.83 MBytes
ROG STRIX Z490-E GAMING BIOS 2201
"- Improve device compatibility.
Before running the USB BIOS Flashback tool, please rename the BIOS file (SZ490E.CAP) using BIOSRenamer."
Any idea what that usually means, other than a vague change log?

I cannot get PTT to stay Enabled on my Z490-I running 2103 Bios version. I confirm changes when Saving and Exiting. I check and its disabled again. I will not be able to upgrade to Windows 11 without this. I posted on another thread and received a PM from someone with the exact same problem. Please help!

Hey, .morph. That is cool.
I've seen Jay get a 4400 MHz as a plug and play thing with i9-11900K. Then also 5100 MHz. Though, I neglected to notice that it's just two RAM sticks. Yeah, 4000 MHz CL15 works for me too on Z490 + i9-10900K with only two sticks.

Though, werid, I am doing all-core 5.2 GHz, which runs stable at 80C in a stress test. Not sure why his cpu is suffering at 5.1 GHz with less cores.Last edited by martine-dee; 06-30-2021 at 05:45 PM.

Gear 1mode with tight timings for 11th gen yields the best results(fps) for gaming. Anything past 3866 is gear 2 and 3733 is usually the gear 1 wall it seems. It will take 4600mhz+ frequency with tight timings to reach an equilibrium of gear 1 3733/3866 performance.
Yep, that is normal, running 4 DIMMs or dual-rank sticks is more strenuous on the IMC's. For best results ocing/tight timing results it is always 2x8gb boards such as the apex will be best for maximising the oc and memory trace/signal strength and mitigating and IMC strain so the overclock can be maximised.Last edited by morph.; 07-01-2021 at 06:25 AM.
