So, where are we at on PCIE 4 support? Every other major brand has announce which boards do and dont support PCIE 4, but ASUS has not, and that concerns me. I bought the Formula assuming it would be capable, but I'm starting to get concerned, since RL is right around the corner, and I still don't know if this board will even fully support its features.

Back in May 2020 ITIGIC did a list of all compatible models of Z490 boards with PCIe 4.0,.. and Asus offers support for 15 of it's Z490 motherboards with the Maximus XII Extreme model confirmed to support two M.2 PCIe 4.0 slots : https://itigic.com/all-compatible-mo...with-pcie-4-0/

Where is the section for the Z490 Boards?
Is there going to be a new section of this forum for the Z490 / MAximus XII motherboards?
Also, I am building a new system with a Maximus XII Formula Motherboard and I'm having a tough time finding my way though the CSM, Secure Boot, Windows UEFI settings. This build was intended to be a dual boot Windows as well as Linux build. Linux and Windows were to be installed on their own SSDs. At first I installed Windows with Windows UEFI mode and included the Asus Drivers and apps. That didn't work at all. The system would lock up when I got to the desktop. So I did a complete reinstall but did manual install of the drivers. This seemed worked and was stable. Then I tried to install Linux on the other drive. However I couldn't get that to work unless I turned off Windows UEFI mode in the bios. However now that its off I cant get apps like CPUID or Samsung Magician to work in Windows. When in Windows (and with Secure Boot now set to "Other OS" those apps lock up the system when I try to install and or run them.
I guess the short question is: "What is the correct setting in the Bios for CSM, Secure Boot for installing Windows as well as Linux... and do you have to change the setting for installations and then change it back after the installation is done?
Note that as a standalone Window Machine with Windows UEFI mode enabled everything was working.Last edited by melchionda; 01-04-2021 at 11:54 PM.

@Braegnok any update with your ram settings/stability etc?
Did you go maximus tweak mode 2 yet or is it left on auto? I noticed your RTL/IOL is trained nicely.
Got my kit today can’t seem to run tweak mode 2 or get a nice memory training to 61/7 or there abouts*

For RTL/IO training my system works best with Maximus Tweak in Auto, than I go into RTL IOL Control, insure all RTL & IOL are in Auto, than scroll down to IO Latency Offset,.. and raise the value by one on CHA and CHB, each time you raise by one it will lower RTL/IO by one. Test for stability often, and you should be able to quickly find your lowest RTL/IO,..

Any idea why MemTweakIt.exe doesnt work on z490 boards? I mean I know there is something in Armoury Crate but I dont like the new Windows modern platform.
btw there is a formula for the io offsets but some boards dont have rtl initial values. you still can do it without it but its easier and have more control.
Also any idea why can change command rate on the 2nd RAM slots, only on the closer ones. And cant go above 3200 for some reason on the closest slots. I thought its the board but it happens on 2 boards already. It would be weird if its the RAM itself....

I do not use MemTweakit. However last I heard it does work on Z490 boards, you can try this version. https://www.dropbox.com/s/x6hy0hrsgu...dk151.zip?dl=0
Currently I'm running 2x16GB memory kit, so I disable Channel A DIMM1, and Channel B DIMM1, not sure if that helps. Also I noticed CR1 works fine on my system regardless of DRAM MHz but requires much more voltage on VCCIO, VCCSA for stability.
Generally your processor's memory controller quality is the main factor in determining your limits when overclocking your memory, or adjusting timings. Memory modules & motherboard also come into play but I think having a strong IMC is main factor.
My 3600MHz profile, I run in CR2 with VCCIO/SA @ 1.15V and with DRAM @ 1.45V, system is 100% stable.

I don’t think the BIOS update can make m.2 support PCIE 4.0.
After all, Z490 M.2 is currently routed by PCH.
The 11th 500 series will be connected to an M.2 by the native PCIE controller of the CPU, not by the PCH.
I think the current BIOS just allows the motherboard to recognize and use 11TH CPU normally.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 2002 version of the BIOS does not seem to have added the PATCH CODE of the previous BIOS version ( Improve system stability and performance related information) .
I use XII HERO with ASUS Xonar STX II PCIE sound card, it will cause BSOD: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION.
This problem has been resolved in the 0607 version update (1003 version is also in normal use).
Update to the BIOS version 2002, as long as you play music and use the ASUS Xonar STX II sound card,
it will immediately blue screen: DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION.
Currently USB BIOS flashback on the motherboard to flash 2002 back to 1003 for normal use.
