Wondering if 4x8 is going to be fine now on Z490, wondering about IMC & stuff.
I'm already very happy with my 2x8GB 4000C15, really good stuff in games, another kit from the very same batch made same week is standing by just in case I'll opt for a Formula XII.

Probably for the LAN driver I'll stick to 1.0.0.13, since I read here that there are some issues with the firmware...
WRT bios, should I stick with the default one 0403, or update to 0607?

    Thank you.
Hi if you go for Formula use bios 0606 i needed that to train my 4x8gb 4000mts corsair memory modules.

So, it was missing a 0, as I was saying, the version number was off, it is supposed to be 4 numbers.

So which Bios is considered the best right now for the Maximus Xii Hero?
im Running 10900k and 4x8gb ddr3600 cl14 @4100 cl15 with really low subtimings right now.

Since apex has got PPD and TXP added in Beta Bios, will the Hero get it also?

About RAM, I have those max xii extreme qvl kits on my watchlist (google search links):

    - "CMK32GX4M2G4700C18" (Ver3.44)
    - "F4-4500C19Q-32GTZR"
    - "F4-4500C19Q-32GTRS"
    - "F4-4500C19Q-32GTZR"
    - "F4-4500C19Q-32GTZN"
    - "CMK32GX4M4G4400C19"
    - "F4-4400C19Q-32GTRS"
    - "F4-4400C19Q-32GTZR"
    - "F4-4400C19Q-32GTZN"
    - "CMK32GX4M4G4266C19"
    - "F4-4266C19Q-32GTZR"
    - "F4-4266C19Q-32GTRS"
    - "F4-4266C19Q-32GTRG"
    - "F4-4266C19Q-32GTZN"
    - "F4-4266C17Q-32GTRS"
    - "F4-4266C17Q-32GTRG"
    - "F4-4266C17D-32GTZN"
    - "AX4U400038G18-QRS"
    - "CMK32GX4M2Z4000C18" (Ver3.31)
    - "F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR"
    - "F4-4000C19D-32GTZR"

The great majority of them aren't available at the moment. I would like to get my hands on those 4500 MHz G.Skills, else if due to unavailability I have to settle for 4000 MHz, I'd like these 15-16-16-39 timings (the second from the bottom), not the 19-19-19-36 (at the bottom).

How does obtaining those fastest RAMs usually work? Do they appear at some point?

Regarding the XMP profiles, I see discrepancies (mostly at the last clock number) in the vendor vs. asus spec. I guess that those do need to be entered manually, according to the QVL information.

Do you want something you just enable XMP and go or are you ok with setting things manually and doing hours of testing? If you want something simple/easy I would recommend 4000-4133 kits. The higher speed kits can be tricky to make work especially if using 4 dimms or 2 x 16g sticks.

Also those Gskill 4500 19 are 19-26-26. You will probably get as good or better performance from the slower 4000 15-16-16 or something like 4133 17-17-17 kits. The 4266 17-18-18 are also an excellent kits. If it were me I would suggest one of these 3 for someone that wants something easier to get working.

Look here https://www.gskill.com/configurator to see more real world speeds the average user can expect. Most of the z490 boards are only 4133 by Gskill for the reason that those higher speeds are harder to hit for the average user.

Asus may have 4500-4800 for QVL but that will require everything being top notch probably requiring binning CPU, MB and RAM sticks.

Hey there, and thanks for the comment and the information. Yea, with Max XII Extreme I go for an i9-10900K build. I see that currently there are probs with both bios and also with CPU availability (NL here) so that means I will wait for all those things to settle. One frustration with my current x299 E Gaming is also that it was impossible to obtain faster QVL RAM. This also goes for E Gaming II when I looked it up recently. And now I see that Max XII QVL RAM has the same kind of issue.

So, my question is: how does one get their hands on those top-notch RAM kits in the first place?

Binning, people buy a bunch of kits and test them and use the best sticks. Most good b die will clock similarly. It just when pushing for really high clocks or tight timings or both that you need really good sticks. Even cheap 3200/c14 b die will usually do 4133/17 to 4400/17. You are basically just paying Gskill or the manufacturer to "bin" the kits for you so instead of paying $100 for a 3200c14 kit you pay $200-400 for a 4133/c17 kit or 4800/c18 as they have tested and verified the ram will run that speed.

The "weak" link is usually the CPU IMC or motherboard. You could take a 10900k and ram that runs 4800c18 on an Apex but put that exact same 10900k and ram in a Hero motherboard and it might top out at 4200c17.

Samsung is what to look for in the Asus QVL(under chip brand) if you are looking for b die which most people prefer for higher clocks and tighter timings. Or look at the first 3 timings. B die are "usually" all the same like 17-17-17. Hynix and Micron will be something like 18-22-22.

The great majority of those kits aren't available at the moment; my question was/is how to get them in the West Europe.. E.g., this one:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=%22F...C15Q-32GTZR%22

Going down the list, Newegg doesn't ship to Europe. Amazon.com has it per the ad, but search doesn't reveal it. Iirc, those shipments get stuck on their way to Europe as well. In the following line of sites, this kit is out of stock / unknown delivery time, or vendors don't bother to ship to the Netherlands.

Btw, the binning added to my dic now. Notably, it is not possible if the kits cannot be bought in the first place. So, that up there ^ is my prob right now.
