Trouble getting RAM running at posted speed on ROG STRIX Z490-A GAMING
Hi
I cannot get the OS to boot using XMP I and my 4x8GB 3600MHz Corsair Vengeance RAM.
I did have it running at 3400MHz using XMP I but then I tried to get it to 3600MHz with some manual voltage increases and it wouldn't boot. When I went back to 3400MHz and XMP I it wouldn't boot again, even after a CMOS reset, so I'm stuck running it at the MB stock speed for now, which is 2600MHz I think.
Motherboard:
https://www.mwave.com.au/product/asu...rboard-ac34478
RAM Kit (CMW32GX4M4C3600C18):
https://www.mwave.com.au/product/cor...-black-ac14695
RAM compatibility list for that motherboard:
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RO...sk_QVL_Memory/
Listed is:
CMW32GX4M4C3600C18(Ver4.31)
I have tested RAM using Windows Memory Diagnostic. I haven't used Memtest64 yet because it will take days.
Is there a decent guide for getting this RAM running at its correct speed, or can anyone help me get it there?
Thanks a lot
V

Hi,
Use xmp 2 not 1
Then go to timings page and switch it to Mode 1
Then drop down and use 2N
Everything else should be fine.
You can tweak these later if you want too
DRAM REF Cycle Time [350]
DRAM REF Cycle Time 2 [350]
DRAM REF Cycle Time 4 [350]
DRAM Refresh Interval [40000]

Thanks for your reply.
I can't find 'Mode 1' anywhere in this version of the BIOS. I did some googling and found a reference and screenshot of it here:
https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...-Maximus-Tweak
I don't appear to have Maximus Tweak as on option on the Strix BIOS.
I made the other changes as instructed and it failed to boot.

Thanks

Hi Vibrate,
What Make and Model RAM are you using, and what manual timings have you applied? Sometimes XMP isn't ideal and manually setting timings is the best way to go.
Happy to try to help

Ok, can you split the RAM into 2 pairs purely for testing then try the XMP profile with 2 sticks at a time if you haven't already, lets try to ascertain physically if one of them is causing you an issue,

Here it is in the MB compatible RAM list: https://i.imgur.com/kPK4fKQ.png
FYI I tried again today using XMP II and running the RAM as low as 2400MHz and it still fails to boot.
I'll try splitting the RAM tomorrow and get back to you, just got into bed here (Sydney).
Thanks
