CPU Power 8 vs 8+4

I'm putting together a new build:
Rog Strix Z490 - E / I9-10900K / GTX3*** (upon release) / Corsair HX850

I have 2 CPU cables, both 8 Pin (splitable into 2x4). The manual says you can hook up either the 8 pin or 8 + 4. I don't plan to do heavy overclocks, but im curious what the pros and cons are of hooking up just the 8 vs hooking up both 8+4. Everything i've read seems to indicate that the 8 pin is typically enough, but is there a downside to splitting one 8pin into 2x4 and hooking it up?

Thanks

Well, technically you could spread the load on two cables instead of one. But apart from minor heat decrease it won't give you much. Also depends on your PSU. If you have one big rail in it it's alright, but if there's multi then running one connector might be actually better.

If I am not mistaken then one 8 pin top out at 390 smth watts. So even the power hungry 10900k should be alright on one. (I think they managed to decrease the the maximum wattage to 350w)

Hope that helps.
