My name is John L. from Level 2 support and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

I am writing this email to provide you an update about your ongoing case. According to our engineers, We don't allow VRM fan to be control as default. The fan is smart and detects temperature and change rpm accordingly.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again for assistance. Thank you for choosing ASUS Product and Services."

i would continue the conversation with support and see if they have any more helpful info to provide or if they will just initiate an RMA.

if you can get your VRM temps to a "hot" temperature and the fans still do not spin up i would consider it defective. whether that's a design flaw or an actual device failure, ??

the reply you got seems more like a generic response to this type of issue than any real support. normally they should be offering some way to help determine if there really is an issue, not just blowing you off saying "that's how it works".

Why is the VRM fan listed as N/A in the BIOS? You'd think that it would at least have some sort of reading if the thing worked. Again, these 490 boards are garbage. All of them.

I know this is an old thread but in case anyone reads it for help...the strix z490 E gaming board has the most robust vrm setup in the strix line up, in fact you don't even have to install the vrm cooling fan. In the manual it says if you are going to do Extreme overclocking you can choose to install it if you want. You can use Hwinfo to check the vrm temps, the fan installed only kicks on if it detects dangerous temps, which you probably will never reach on overclocking on this boards vrm's, so relax 😉

Bumping this thread back up (no need to start a new one)

I'm having the same issue. Z490-E, VRM fan not showing up in BIOS. Latest version (11/26/2020). I hope this eventually gets fixed.

It's working as intended, the fan doesn't turn on unless temps get high enough, which is likely not going to happen unless you're doing extreme overclocking.

No, it doesnt even show up in the BIOS... It says "N/A". Doesnt show up in the fan tests either, its greyed out.

Here's a pic of the AI Suite 3 page after the fan test which tests all fans/pumps. Every fan/pump connected got exercised except for the VRM.Click image for larger version.

I'm not super worried about it, I'm just pointing out that it should be fixed. After all, they spent the money/effort to include it with the MoBo and I I took the time to put the thing in there...

Correct, it's N/A because there's no fan speed. The only thing that's missing is a control for the fan, but the fan will automatically turn on if temperatures become an issue. Thing is, the VRM heatsink is pretty good.
