Strix X570-I Gaming M.2_1 slot not recognizing SSD

Specs:
ASUS Rog Strix X570-I (bios version 2606)
AMD 5950X
RTX 3090 FE
2x16GB G.Skill TridentZ Neo 3600MHz C16
2x 1TB Sabrent Rocket PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

The front (M.2_1) slot never seems to detect either SSD. The slot on the back (M.2_2) detects both just fine.
Tried all BIOS versions from the latest (2813) to 2606, no dice.
Tried booting into a live Ubuntu ISO and the SSDs on the M.2_1 slot don't show up.
Is the M2 slot on the front just dead or am I missing some setting? The motherboard is brand new.

Turns out this connector came loose when removing the heatsink the first time, it's working now!

Hey, I just want to thank you! The cable was just barely pressed into the socket preventing the drive from being seen. Securing the connection solved the problem!
