Installed 3003 Friday mid-day. Ran encodes solidly for 30 hours with no issues.
When system idled down last night around 10pm, nothing but WHEA errors and crash reboots since then....
Exactly the same settings as I ran on 2206 for over two weeks without a fail.
Back to 2206....

Disabling c-states has been the resounding success at stopping these errors. Which suggests that for some reason CPU power is going too low when idle. Disabling c-states (power saving feature) seems to be a temp fix for WHEA problems and will see slightly higher idle temp as well.
Found this post of changes made for WHEA errors, (reproduced) as follows:-
What seems to have resolved this issue for me is:
1. Updating to bios 3003
2. Disable CPU C-States & DF Cstates under Advanced-> AMD CBS
3. Set "Power Supply Idle Control" option from AUTO to "Typical Idle Current";
4. Enable CPPC & CPPC Preferred cores (not sure how much this affects stability);
I can replicate the hard reboots consistently, by enabling/defaulting the above settings.
To be safe I also did the following in windows:
5. Disable all power saving features in windows and set to max performance;
6. Update all windows drivers.
7. Run "sfc /scannow" followed by "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" to ensure my windows installation was not corrupted.
I've never personally had the WHEA error issue the above is suggested temp fix and YMMV.

I did consider the C-states and other tweaks.
Where exactly is #3 located - I did not find that setting.
Also, I was hesitant to do anything with #4 - preferred cores.
My usage typically employs all cores. I've found it better to keep PBO on AUTO versus enabling it - with it on, power and heat increase but the average clock over several hours of use is not improved.
I've been hoping one of the 5000 compatible BIOS would work as simply as 2206 does.

Yup. I installed this new Bios maybe ten days ago and my rig has been purring like a kitten (touch wood) since. Let me add that I game every day for a number of hours.
Thumbs up, Asus. You hit this one out of the park!!
I would add though that I think "fast boot" in Windows is potentially a source of problems. Hence, mine is disabled.
Also, since there is mention of Aura and Armoury Crate. I have uninstalled all of that #*@*. I then reinstalled Windows with the WIndows recovery tool. You can control your fans from the Bios. You can also turn RGB off. Honestly, and I can't speak for others, but all of those fancy lights to me are not what I want. I am busy looking at my computer monitor and don't even look at my case. I think RGB is needless cosmetic marketing #$&* and it is bad enough to have had to pay for it, never mind having to look at it. I wish Asus motherboards had it as optional, and had the price lowered for motherboards without it. Who needs it? And the software for it stops working before long anyhow.Last edited by Super Gnome; 12-20-2020 at 02:25 PM.
