Wow, now I'm more confused than ever. 🙂 I've been considering the R3E (as probably everyone on the board knows by now, and they're all silently shaking their heads and rolling their eyes). Now this? I'm having a hard time getting to grips where this will sit in the hierarchy. There are features on here (like the dual gigabit NICs & additional USB headers) that are missing on the R3E.

I guess this is boiling down to the single question of whether to choose 1366 or 1156. My gut feeling is that the R3E is still the better option, despite the release of Sandy Bridge. but I have been known to be wrong.

It pretty much depends on what you will be using the rig for. The P67 chipset which is meant for the mainstream segment, whereas we all know that X58 is a power user/gamer/O.C chipset. The P67 chipset is the replacement for P55 chipset rather than the replacement for X58.

Btw, the socket on P67 boards is actually 1155, but all 1156 CPU coolers/heatsinks will still fit perfectly on LGA-1155 🙂

Mason,

Thanks for this, I guess I'm still looking at the 1136 R3E then as I'm going to be adventurous with my next rig. The M4E is still a nice board, with some features I'd LOVE to see on the R3E. I guess they might show up on the R4E 🙂

When will this be released for sale? I was under the assumption they would be released with the new SB chips but neither NewEgg nor Tiger, (or anywhere else I can find for that matter) are carrying this board.

Can somebody clarify this boards release date, and also any idea of its price in US $ ?

I think so, cuz I was going to purchase this mobo at this site: http://www.inet.se/artikel/1901896/asus-maximus-iv-extreme (I don't know if I'm allowed to put this website here? If not, then I'm sorry)
It's like the best website in Sweden for PC-components and they realeased the Sandy Bridge and the corresponding mobos at the 0:01 (2011/01/09) which was settled in Sweden for the SB release.
But I came home about 3-4 hours later after work and then all ASUS-mobo on that site was finished. I did contact my friend and he told me that all ASUS-bobo was sold out.
I was disappointed and checked all other sites in sweden but could't find any M4E.
I already contact every retailer and distributor and they told me that it will come approximately 16-20 january.
