Maximus XII and Viper Steel 4400mhz RAM
I am using 4 x 8GB sticks of Patriot Viper Steel DDR4400 along an i9 10850k and a Maximus XII board.
I can only get it to run at 4133mhz which is expected and with the timings below.
Voltages I have 1.47 DRAM and 1.30v for VCCIO and SA and I have loaded the XMP2 profile for 4400 and then changed the frequency to 4133 in the BIOS dropdown.
The CPU is set to auto in the BIOS so no OC there while I get the RAM correct
My issue is that I think something is still not quite right in terms of stability (maybe voltages?) as sometimes I get random crashes to desktop on games, it can be after 30 mins or after 5 hours. I have tried bumping up the voltages but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Windows is always stable no BSODs yet.
Can someone with a similar setup share their settings so I may try something new?
Thanks

Combining kits can already give you these problems....pushing over 4000MHz may add more
I'd try one kit and see what you get...both kits may run 4000 with 1.3 IO SA...maybe only 3600

Ok that is something I can try sure.
And the timings, can that be the reason also? Do they look ok?
280 for the trfc is the lowest I can go any lower and it fails to post.

Aggressive timings will of course make things harder...but a lot of that is trial and error...
You might find 3600 tight timings beats 4000+ with the timing compromises and voltages
3600 should run with IO and SA at 1.1 or abouts
trfc 6 7 or 8x trc should do itLast edited by Arne Saknussemm; 01-05-2021 at 04:14 PM.

Yeah I'm not really going for max OC just need stability and if I can lower voltages means cooler, that's a win for me I really doubt I will see any difference in Cyberpunk from 3600 vs 4000.
So what timings would you recommend to try out @3600? instead of my 16/16/16/34?
Also I doubt I need 1.47v on DRAM at 3600 right?Last edited by sd_dracula1; 01-05-2021 at 09:13 PM.

If you tighten sub timings you can need more voltage...1.45 is fine if you tighten primaries more...
3600 C14 can be around 1.5..1.6 mark
3600 16 16 16 32 48....tRFC 288/240 should work 1.35 to 1.45v

Ok thanks for that I set it to the 2nd one you mentioned and 1.45v DRAM, still have SA and VCCIO at 1.3v though, should I lower some more?
For the C14 if I want to test around with, what values I need to aim for?

For 3600 you should be good at 1.1 IO and SA....maybe a touch more
Try 14-14-14-28-42....trfc 252.....Something like that...but that will need more DRAM voltage...at least in my experience...
For stability I use Karhu RAMTest...you have to pay a bit for it but the time it saves and the thorough test are worth it for me...

Which is setting name is the 42 value from the 14-14-14-28-42, above? So I can find it in the BIOS
For this I need higher DRAM voltage like 1.5/1.6 right? How about for SA and VCCIO?
Also when I went down to 3600 from 4133 the memory latency increased from 45ns to 50.2ns is that right?Last edited by sd_dracula1; 01-06-2021 at 08:30 PM.

Yep need more volts for that....but this you have to find for yourself...especially combining kits...I'm just giving ball-park figures...a place to start if you will.
At 3600 I found 1.1 for both SA and IO worked fine...but you can tru 1.15 etc
Yes..I guess latency increases as you drop frequency so you have to tighten timings
Play about with sub timings too...there is no one size fits all....hours of experimentation in this stuff
