Asus Maximus XI Extreme 4266MHz ram

Hello everyone, just joined the forums.

First of all thank you for your help.

Here are my computer specs:

CPU: i9-9900KS
CPU Cooler: Asus ROG Ryujin360 AIO [ROG RYUJIN 360]
MB: ASUS ROG Maximus XI Extreme [ROG MAXIMUS XI EXTREME]
GPU: Asus ROG RTX 3090 [ROG-STRIX-RTX3090-O24G-GAMING]
PSU: Asus ROG Thor 1200W [ROG-THOR-1200P]
CASE: ASUS ROG Strix Helios GX601 [ROG STRIX HELIOS GX601]
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z RGB [F4-4266C17Q-32GTZR]

I just replaced my old 2x8GB DDR4 3000MHz exceleram black kudos memory.

I am trying to tweak my new 4266MHz memory.

Running BIOS 1802 on the XI Extreme.

Extreme Tweak mode 1 will not work with either XMP I or XMP II.
Extreme Tweak mode 2 works with both.

On auto, the VCCSA and VCCIO are pushed to 1.40v. I set them manually to 1.25v (I also booted in Windows with just 1.17v both, but with RAM timings not tweaked)
Enabled MRC fast boot to disable the memory training. Was always changing the memory timings and sometimes the system would hang at different error codes (23, 55, etc).

Disabled virtualisation as it was impacting my AIDA64 Cache & Memory Benchmark.

Now running Extreme Tweak mode 2 on XMP II with manual timings, as shown in the ASRock Timing Configurator:

I opened this thread because I am not sure if I need some help with tweaking the timings next? If yes, I would like to leave the primary timings stock and work with the secondary timings, tertiary timings, etc
Are my RTL and IOL out of the charts?

I ask this because all the values are taken from a screenshot from Silent Scone@ASUS (for which I thank you a lot!) that runs same kit on MAXIMUS XI FORMULA, with i9-9900K, picture attached bellow:

Also, what do you recommend to test stability? I had no BSODs or whatever, just issues with MB sometimes hanging with memory training activated.

Even if its stable in Windows, I have issues on some boots or reboots on the motherboard, code 23, 3a or 55... Any help stabilizing 4266mhz at xmp primary timings?

EDIT:

Seems like I forgot MRC Fast Boot on disabled. I set in on enable, seems the situation is improved, got only once error 55 after 10 reboots. Now I bumped a bit the RAM from 1.450v to 1.460v, just to be sure.

1802 bios? I've had some strange memory issues since then too, maybe I need to enable MRC Fastboot vs auto...

Yes, I was already on 1802 when memory arrived. What are your specs and memory speed?

Set trace centering to enabled.
I use Linpack to check my ram oc.

With Trace Centering enabled the system would not post, error code bF.

Most likely the stability that I have is not caused by the RAM or CPU capabilities, it feels like the issues are BIOS bugs or my lack of experience to properly overclock the ram to 4266MHz. Once I am in Windows, everything is fine and stable. Bad IMC maybe?

Seems like the board just dont want to train correctly the RTL and IOL values since I have same issues running @4000MHz...

Any advices from where to start to get it to rated XMP speeds, since the system feels like it is capable of doing just fine once the MB post with success and everything is stable in Windows and no BSODs?

I tried 4266mhz on mine since I built it in 2018, slightly different kit than yours, but 1802 bios allows for XMP, but it fails memtest86 (unstable). I've managed to get significantly better timings at 4000mhz and better performance than what you posted at 4266mhz.

It seems like the issue was myself, not the hardware. Silly me, lesson learned, always load optimized defaults after making hardware changes.

I just loaded optimized defaults, activated XMP 2, set vccsa and vccio to 1.25v, maximus tweak mode 2, set tWRWR_dg to 4 (otherwise the MB will set it to 8 and in AIDA64 Cache And Memory Benchmark I get half of write speed on RAM).

After that, the memory looked like this and the MB trained the RTL and IOL values as following:

The final problem was that my i9-9900KS was underclocked via offset since I was using the old DDR4 3000MHz and I had to work my CPU voltage a bit up for the system to always succes.

Do I need to try to optimize timings further?

I set all of my RTL's to 60 (after RTL/IOL Training enabled) and IOLs are at 4.
