Asus PG329Q dimming automatically

hi all

brand new monitor PG329Q, after about 45min of play, the screen automatically dims it's brightness about 25%.
Very annoying. By turning the monitor off and back on, it's back to full brightness.

i've read other users having the same issues but no real solution, other than to turn off and on again.

Hi there,
sorry to be on Lunar New Year holiday.
May I know what kind of device and model do you connect your monitor with? a laptop or desktop?
Does this only happen when playing games? or also on other usage?
Thank you.

hi

i have the monitor connected to a brand new desktop pc.
it happens in all monitor modes really, user, RPG, racing etc...

there's another thread about the same issue with multiple users, but no solution yet.
https://linustechtips.com/topic/1266691-hdr-issues-on-a-asus-rog-swift-pg329q-update/page/2/?tab=com...

so, any news on this?

if you check the link, there are numerous reports of the same problem
not cool if you pay 700+ euros for a single monitor

Hey Dunkin,

Just wanted to include you in on another thread. Our resident Russian friend from the linus forums posted this here.

https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?123341-Asus-PG329Q-HDR-mode-sudden-decrease-in-brightness&...

Just wanted you aware. According to support someone mentioned something about a firmware fixing things. I wanted to include you incase this fix goes public and it's something we can do ourselves and not have to take to a service center.

Hi Dunking Donut,
May you help to record a video of the issue?
Thank you.

hi, i can not record a video of the issue, it happens randomly and at different times.
i see you've also asked a fellow customer here https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?123341-Asus-PG329Q-HDR-mode-sudden-decrease-in-brightness&...

the issue has been reported several times on many forums, there are a couple of them here including me https://linustechtips.com/topic/1266691-hdr-issues-on-a-asus-rog-swift-pg329q-update/page/2/?tab=com...

i'm sure you guys can replecate the issue with enough testing, but like all well paying customers for this monitor, it's REALLY annoying when playing games, even when working in photoshop. we all would like to get it fixed through firmware update possibly.
it's a good monitor don't get me wrong, but having it turned on for 30 - 40 minutes and having it dim itself by 25% is a real turn off.

i'm not willing to send it back for RMA, i need it for work too, so hoping for a different fix

thanks

Hi Dunking Donut,
There is a protection mechanism of the LCD when turning on the HDR mode, the monitor would dim a bit after a while.
This mechanism is to protect the panel to be used for a longer time.
It can not be changed
But I can't not be sure if your situation is exactly this issue so I would like to double confirm.
So if you happen to capture some picture or video, please share with me.
Thank you.

hi

protection from what? overheating?
so was this auto dimming built-in on purpose?

furthermore, you say it happens when HDR is turned on, so with HDR turned off, it shouldn't autodim at all, right?
and by turning it off, you mean in the windows display options?
