Need Help, after an expensive accident

Just upgraded my computer and finally got the parts together .

Intel Core i9 9980XE
Rampage Extreme VI Encore
MSI GeForce RTX 2080ti
Corsair DDR4-2132 (1066 mhz) 64mb

and all the rest of the bits and bobs. This is the 2nd time i`ve ever built my own pc. But upon putting this together I did the worst thing you could ever do I suppose.
The CPU slipped out of my hand and fell into the socket on the rampage board and bent a few pins in the center and on one corner, I could have cried....

I emailed the company I bought it off and explained but they wouldn`t entertain it as it is down to human error. I also emailed Asus but they emailed back ,

"ASUS do not handle the warranty process for your product directly and we advise that you contact your retailer who will support you during the full warranty period of your product and will be able to arrange a repair/replacement or refund via their distribution channels if the product is still within its warranty period."

Is there any way I can get this expensive board repaired or do I have to throw it away. I purchased this just before Xmas. Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank You

Steve

Hi, I have had a similar issue as you. The only thing to do is try to straighten the pins carefully with a magnifying glass and try the processor after that. You might just get away with it.

Ouch! Im on a R6EE because I did the same thing with my R6E. Except I fubared the pins to hell and back. I sent in to ASUS to get the socket replaced, Id pay for it. Not so much as a reply. There was a place in NYC that did socket replacements but COVID put them out of business. My hands are not steady enough to get them anywhere close to straight.

That's one of the bad things about buying a little at a time. Had you just bought the MOBO chances are you could have just returned it to place of purchase and told them it did work and get a replacement. Too much time has passed now. Id still look around for a place the does socket replacement. Used to be around $100. Or try a lighted very high power magnifying glass and a pair of fine tweezers. I've done it before but too old and shaky now. BIG P{ITA with these boards is the pins are not all aligned the same direction.

Well, Big Johnny, I'm not far behind you 🙂

Maybe you'll find someone with steady hands. Unfortunately, these things happen. :(. Best of luck to you.

Dunno a few of us old farts looming around. 59 this year. Used to be steady as a rock but now its like the harder I concentrate to less steady my hands become. I made one attempt at one pin and couldnt even get ahold of it. Get really close going slow and easy and next thing you know Im several pins over. LOL Im like Im gonna mess this up worse than it already is. Mine was even dumber mistake. I didnt drop anything, I was too lazy and thought I could pull the CPU, Clean the top off and put it back in with the 100 lb case still standing vertical. uhhhh NOPE! Sat in socket just fine. Held it in place, somewhere in dropping retention bracket and locking it down things didn't work out but the CPU survived so there is one positive thing.

Over the years I have used these guys twice for CPU Socket replacement, https://ps3specialist.com/computer-motherboard-damaged-cpu-socket-replacement-service/

I just checked site and they still do socket replacement, and LGA 2066 cost $158.99 + $18.99 Shipping.

If they have the socket in stock the turn around time is 1-3 days, if socket is out of stock they will let you know turn around time at check out.

Good luck.

Hi Steve,
What our local team means is that you would need to ask the retailer to help you to send the board to us for repair, you can't send it to us directly.
So you have contacted the retailer but they refused to help you with it?
Thank you.
