ROG STRIX Z590-E Gaming WiFi overclocking 10700K

Hi guys

I'm hoping for a little guidance here!

I've recently upgraded my motherboard from a Z490 PRIME-A to a ROG STRIX Z590-E Gaming WiFi. The old motherboard has gone to a build for my son.

OK, on the PRIME-A I used to run my 10700K at the following and it was stable with decent temps in AIDA64 (~92C) after 10 mins or so.

MCE - Enabled
Core Usage - 52, 52, 52, 52, 51, 51, 51, 51
AVX Offset - 1
SVID - Best Case Scenario
LLC - 4
Adaptive Voltage - 1.4V
VCCIO - 1.2V
VCCSA - 1.2V
DRAM - 1.4V
DRAM Speed - 4000MHz
Vcore in HWiNFO64 would max out at around 1.459V which I believe being socket sense would really be around 1.36-1.37V which I was quite happy with, again the temps were managable.

There were probably some other tweaks like TVB Voltage Optimizations being enabled too...

Now with the new board, to get it to even boot into Windows I need to run Adaptive Voltage at 1.58V which is obviously not a happy place to be! Mind you, HWiNFO64 maxes out at around 1.476 or something like that, which 'should' still be just less than 1.4V if you take into account that it is a Socket Sense reading?

I know the voltage isn't really high as the temps stay around the same ~92C in AIDA64 but I'm not happy that I'm having to use such a high value in BIOS, just in case!

What are everyone else's findings on the Z590 boards? I know they're still immature BIOS-wise - I'm currently on 0605

10700K (SP in BIOS 51)
Noctua D15 Chromax.Black (Cooler Score in BIOS ~182)
32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3733MHz
Corsair RM750i
WD SN850 500GB boot SSD (in slot 3)
AData Sx8200Pro 2TB (the one with the good controller etc in slot 4)
EVGA 1070 Ti FTW2 (+550MHz RAM / +200MHz core)
Antec P120 Crystal
6 x Noctua Chromax.Black S12A Case fans

So, just updated from BIOS 0605 to BIOS 0703 (Beta) to see if that helps - Bluetooth is now dead?!

I've now picked up a 11700K and even with Optimized Default settings I'm seeing way over 1.5V in HWinfo64 VCore???

I've just changed Adaptive Voltage to 1.4V, only other changes are XMP1 - DDR4 3733MHz to match my RAM kit, everything else on Auto - seeing 1.545V VCore in HWInfo64???? Not sure what Auto LLC is but this can't be right?

I'm in process of RMA'ing my 10700K but I have a feeling it's not the CPU it's the board???

I've tried new BIOS 0703 and now 0704 with the same results.

SP for the 10700K is 51 and the SP for the 11700K is 55 so yeah, I've lost out on the SL both times however the 10700K would run at the settings in my previous post nice and stable in games etc on my PRIME Z490-A board, this STRIX Z590-E should be a better board???

(*HwINFO64 version 7.00-4400 in use - the beta version 7.01-4425 shows VCores over 2.75V which is obviously wrong)

setting adaptive to 1.4v does nothing if it is a value lower than the native vid

Thanks @Shamino, I'd actually read that when I first got back into overclocking last year.

What I don't understand is the massive voltage requirement difference between my PRIME-A Z490 and this STRIX Z590-E? 0.18V in BIOS for the same chip can't be right?

Is it the case that HWiNFO64 simply can't read the right VCore on the Z590 board yet? I'm assuming both boards are Socket Sense and that the VCore displayed in HWiNFO64 is around 0.08-0.09V higher than what the CPU is actually seeing?

And surely, if either chip was really pulling 1.5+V, I'd not be able to keep it at a decent temperature with an NF-D15????

Having said that, having to set 1.58V in BIOS for the same chip that only need 1.4V on the other board makes me think it's the board itself that is out???

Can I please ask everyone running a Z590 board what their BIOS VCore settings are? Please mention your processor, stock or OC, and board?

using the Z590-E Gaming WiFi & 11700K;

BIOS(0704) with default settings, shows Vcore @ 1.465v.

still with defaults, HWinfo under CPU drop-down shows voltage min @ .63v \ avg @ 1.36v \ max @ 1.47v.
under Motherboard drop-down shows max Vcore @ 2.57v.

setting Cores to 5.2GHz, i can't boot OS with anything under 1.455v.
and then it wasn't stable when stressing.
1.5v is the lowest i can go so far stable @ 5.2GHz.

seems crazy. my 8700K on the Z370 version of this board @ 5.2GHz runs perfectly @ 1.285v.
but all the early articles i saw about the 11th gen stated they were power hungry.

Sounds like you're having a similar experience to me? Have you got Adaptive Boost enabled by any chance? I think this is what causes the additional voltages?

I've been able to get a 52, 52, 50, 50, 49, 49, 49, 49 overclock set at 1.45V Adaptive in BIOS with ABT and TVB disabled at LLC5, pulls VCore of just over 1.4V in HWiNFO64 on load now which I'm happy with (I believe this is around 1.32V in reality with it being a Socket Sense reading?). I've also set AVX2 -2 and AVX512 -4.

My 11700K is only an SP55 and my V/F curve isn't great unfortunately, needs 1.433V for 5.0GHz according to the tables. Might see if I can get it to 52, 52, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50 at 1.45V

i decided to see how well ASUS may have adapted their AI Overclocking for the new generation and it works okay.
after a couple stress tests and restarts, ended up with 5.1GHz on all cores with zero AVX offset @ 1.469v.
though it raised my temps ~10° at 100% usage and it disables all c-states which also sucks.
while it is getting better implemented, I still wouldn't use it as a "set & forget it" method of overclocking.

Have run CineBench r20&r23 , Prime95 for about an hour (small fft - no avx) , with latest BIOS , and it seems stable with Dark Rock Pro 4 max temps ~75C.
