Apex is weird.
I remember another user complaining and in the end doing RMA on an M12A. From those stories, it sounds like a sort of gamble. I wouldn't be comfortable taking an Apex mobo, that much I can say.
Yeah, a low latency 32 GB RAM doesn't really work for me on Z490 with four slots. A kit of 2x 16 GB probably would.
All in all, I am happy with Z490 and the 10th gen. I am just building a fort because we won't see great hardware in a while. I'd hate it if my CPU died, without replacements available in the market, or the replacements being like an i3-*. Since I am getting a backup, the question is whether I could get better than i9-10900K.Last edited by martine-dee; 09-11-2021 at 06:42 AM.

if still need a back-up, grab another 10900K will do...
worst case scenario Intel will replace your stuff, it won't be like there will be nowhere to find
and yeah, we'll keep for a while the gear we have now, at least Alder is a must skip step =))
DDR5, PCIe 5 and other uncharted territories, that would be a nice $#!show to watch =))

Hmm, I just picked up a z590 Apex board on a good deal, and I will be using it with my 10900k. I've been on a Strix Z490-E and decided I wanted the Apex so I could get more accurate vcore readings and overclock memory more effectively. I couldn't find a Z490 Apex, so had to go with the Z590.
Any issues pairing Z590 Apex with a 10th gen 10900K? I'm not looking to use a Rocket Lake chip. I've actually got 2 10900k's and got the Apex to try to get the most out of overclocking--I will keep whichever 10900k performs best and sell the other.
