Now I prefer Intel could port Icelake X SKUs via 10nm SuperFin to our LGA 2066.
At this moment there are no information adddition these SKUs. Hope there are 28 core SKUs MLC die fit on our LGA2066.
PCIe 4.0 was provide by Icelake X SKUs as picture below but take a look for DMI 3.0 x 4 still remain conjuction between CPU and PCH
If Intel release Icelake X we'll got 8 channel DDR4 3200 IMC support suddenly. And also better Gen 2 Mesh Interconnect too.
Full Sunny Cove Microarchitect Performance
Today Intel Sunny Cove Microarchitect used on many Intel mobile SKU like Icelake U/Y also Rocket lake SKUs were cut down version of
it FPU performance. They also limit Physical / Virtual address advantage of Sunny Microarchitect. The bad thing is 2 x Load 2 x Store port on
Sunny Cove Microarchitect above were also cutdown from Icelake U/Y and Rocket Lake due It was only 1 x 512-bit FMA Port on port 5.
So There are performance decline a lot from original Microarchitect annouce on late 2018
FPU comparison on Skylake S VS Cypress Cove VS Skylake X
These will let many friend understand what wrong with Icelake U/Y and Rocket Lake SKUs. It was main cause that Intel loss it FPU performance
and multicore scaling performance to AMD Ryzen 5000 series. Due Intel cutting down its advantage microachitect on consumer product.
AVX512 also limit it true performance output due lack of 2nd 512-bit FMA port by a half.
Hope Icelake X SKUs on 11th Core X fixing this bad idea soon. Due Icelake SP SKUs coming with true 2 x 512-bit FMA port.
These will let 2 load 2 store of Sunny Cove working again also physical and virtual address coming full potential of it first design.
Full performace Sunny Cove will wipe out ZEN 3/3+ microarchitect easily.

I think if Intel go this route then they will take one of the ice Lake Xeon Golds with either 24, 26, 28 cores (They took a corresponding Xeon gold die when they created the 10980XE etc so it makes sense to repeat that idea). I do not think they will do just a 18 core XE version. It's just too small step, so 24,26,28 is more likely.
and I think the key is going to be: IPC improvement, security improvement AND make sure the XE have 2 AVX-512 units port 0-1 and port 5 like sky lake and cascade lake -X has. my understanding is that Ice lake Xeons have improved thermals so you can run AVX-512 at much higher frequency (lower negative offsets) than on sky lake X/cascade lake X.
It will be interesting to see if the 11980XE happens. Last HEDT X series CPU was released in 2019 (10980 XE) and if we don't get this 11980XE ice lake one in 2021 we will not see any HEDT X until Sapphire Rapids which is 2022 in my view.
I am fine either way. My 10980XE is awesome in hard core complex and diverse computational intensive work pushing both AVX-512 units to the max!
It is such a versatile tool directly located in the core with low latency to same data and as the rest of the CPU. The alternative of using a GPU is much less versatile with much higher latency. What AVX-512 is missing in terms of raw FP power vs. a GPU (e.g. Nvidea 3090 etc) it makes up for in lower latency, versatility and integration with all other code that runs on the CPU. LGA 2066 is EOL for CPU upgrades the next socket will support today features PCI-e 4.0 and more cores, LGA 2066 is maxed out and can't support more without a smaller die which will never happen for a old ass socket!

also doubt very much an icelake 2066 X/XE will happen with Sapphire Rapids around the corner. Unless, of course, intel screws up and slips on Sapphire Rapids...
