Need RAM advice for Dark Hero - 5900X build
I need some advice for what RAM to buy.
The Board will be Dark Hero, chip will be AMD 5900X, Strix 3080 OC, WD Black SN850, EVGA 1000 Platinum PSU, Workstation mainly, every once in a while Gaming. Not an overclcoking Junkie, just like the Board. Looking for Fast, but stable
I am doing 64GB, either 2x32 or 4x16, will not ever go to 128GB
Choosing G.Skill Trident Neo Z 3600mHz
The 2 stick sets have higher CAS than the 4 stick sets.
Here are the sets I am looking at, these sets are all on the QVL for this board and CPU. This is the order of preference, will these work for me? Any comments on these?
1) F4-3600C14Q-64GTZN CL14-15-15-35 1.45V 64GB (4x16GB)
2) F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN CL16-16-16-36 1.35V 64GB (4x16GB)
3) F4-3600C16D-64GTZN CL16-22-22-42 1.45V 64GB (2x32GB)

They all are good choices. 64gb is a lot, but if you have use case, then do it.
Of note, maybe an issue, the WD Black SN850 lacks AES 256-bit hardware encryption but is speed demon when not running slow

so maybe Samsung 980 Pro might a be better choice, they seem very even (slow down not included), not sure ?Last edited by RedSector73; 06-26-2021 at 01:31 PM.

so for this set of RAM:
1) F4-3600C14Q-64GTZN CL14-15-15-35 1.45V 64GB (4x16GB)
Is the voltage an issue for long term use?

No, mine run 1.5v default and are F4-3800C14D-16GTZN running 14-16-16-36. Your selection and mine have a temp sensor built in as well.
Your selection is a great binned RAM that uses raised voltage for stability and speed through better primary timings.
A really good binned b-die can run a little higher than 1.5v, and the original samsung b-die specifications (that cover all of the ram inc bottom of the barrel) called 1.5v as maxmium safe working voltage.Last edited by RedSector73; 06-27-2021 at 08:06 AM.
