Same issue after upgrading 2080 TI FE to EVGA 3080 Ti FTW3

    Hi forum,

I am also experiencing this startup issue on my ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK HERO after I exchanged my RTX 2080 TI FE with an EVGA RTX 3080 TI FTW3 ULTRA.

When I shut down the PC at night, It typically won't power on the next day in the evening; I need to switch off the power supply (Corsair AX1200i) and wait until the white led of the on board start button goes dark before the board will power on again.

The only change so far seems to be the replacement of the graphics card, which now has a PCIe4 interface as compared to the PCIe3 of the 2080ti.
I would rule out the power supply, as the PC is working flawlessly once powered on; also the typical power draw of ~700W under load should not be critical.
Before the graphics card replacement, the board worked flawlessly for over a month without any issues.

I am really curious about the root cause of this issue - hopefully ASUS will be able to reproduce and fix.

    Hi all,

Having the same exact issue as the OP and others. Runnig 5800X, MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio and Corsair RM1000X. Built my PC a few weeks ago and didn't really notice any issues until a while ago (I rarely power off or put the computer to sleep so this wasn't too apparent).

I'd be hard press to say this is a Ram issue as I have tested on my board with two different sets of ram on the QVL with the same result. Have gone through the recommendations of enabling erp s5, clean bios, etc. Tested each ram stick individually, in different combinations and this made no difference. Also ruled out PSU issue testing with an older corsair CM850.

Only real change before runnig into this bug was updating bios to the latest 3801 from 3302 but downgrading and other bios versions in between didn't remedy the issue either. While I haven't noticed an adverse effect on performance as the system is pretty stable when On I am concerned this may cause further issues down the line. If being left without a working PC for a few weeks wasn't such an inconvenience I would have RMA'd the board already though that seems to be the only option left at this point.

    Hi Big B,

I replaced my motherboard a few days after I replaced my GPU (from 2080 to 3080).
What PSU do you have? Is it an option to test it again with your 2080?
Tomorrow I'll replace the 3080 with a 2080 (one sold, one kept), will see what happens.

I have read sometimes something about this boot/sleep related to the 3000 series Nvidia cards. Looks like it's really happening.

    Cheers

    Hi hakai,

I'll try my old 2080 for the next days. I can DOA until 29.10. - way better than RMA. But I guess it's GPU related.
RAM, PSU? That would be strange - but no idea, maybe it's true. People talk a lot when the day is long (we are all experts ).

Perhaps Asus can tell us if this problem appears only to the 3000 series GPUs.

    Cheers

    PSU is a Corsair AX1200i (https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Catego.../CP-9020008-NA).

I still have the 2080 TI here, so swapping the graphics card back would certainly be possible - the only issue may be to find some time to actually do that

So you also have a very good PSU, that shouldn't be the problem.

I just changed my GPUs and not tomorrow! DOA date is too close.
Replacing it took only a few minutes (if not watercooled or riser card or...).

    Will post updates.

    Hi Big B,
Have you restored bios to all default settings and it still won't power on the next day evening? Did it occur everyday or once in two days?
    Is the bios version 3801?
Could you please also share me the result about swapping to 2080 TI?
May I have the information below?
    - the serial number of your motherboard via PM
    - the brand and the model name of the CPU and RAM
(Please check the specific model name of RAM such as G.SKILL F4-4400C19D-16GTZSW )
    - OS version and the OS build
    Thank you.

    Hi hakai,
How often did it occur?(for example: if you start three times a day, once of them is not boot? ) only occurred while cold restart?

    Hi Xairoo,
Our tech team have tested the motherboard on hand with S3+S4 for 1hr and 16hr, but didn't face the issue so far.
If not wake up issue still occurs on your device, could you please send the motherboard to the retailer and transfer to our repair center for further examination, and share the repair number to me via PM?
If it doesn't occur with the 2080 graphics card, and only occurs with 3080 graphics card, please let me know.
    Thank you.

As you have read I am currently testing my 2080. So far no problems.

    Chronologically until now:
    • short sleep to test it after changing the card, then PC was operating for ~5 minutes
    • sleep for ~45 minutes, wake with WOL, then PC was operating for ~1 minute
    • sleep for ~2 hours, wake by WOL, then PC was operating for ~3 hours
    • sleep for ~1 1/2 hour, wake by WOL, operating for ~7 minutes (backup)
    • sleep for ~5 hours, wake by keyboard

Will test it until friday or until the first wake issue.

    Just to clarify:
    • RMA only if the problem exists with the 2080 too?
    • Or if it's 3080 related wait until Asus or Nvidia or the holy salamander will publish a fix?

    Cheers
