Questions to ROG Engineers: Reposting/Thermal refresh G513QY Advantage Edition!

Dear Asus Team,

In one of them G513QY units, vRam update has failed and we had to open the cooling chamber and
and SPI the vBios directly.

Problem is, after this, LM and chipset/vrm/vram thermal compounds got degraded, and the GPU as well as the vram has air bubbles causing GPU overheating and self shut down as results of the Temps protection.

Now we ordered brand new delivery of LM paste, thermal pads (0.5mm, 1mm, 2mm) and just in case also regular Gelid Extrme past tube. I believe this delivery will arrive in approx 2 weeks, til then we won't touch this unit.

We want to confirm with you the gaps between the cooling chamber and the different cooled parts, could you please confirm that the numbers in the attachment are correct?

Also, quick question, if we wanted to use Gummy paste instead pads, what type of gummy thermal paste Asus used? Model/brand? For the vram, vrm etc.. ?

Your detailed information would be highly appreciated,

Thank you!

Hello,

There is a reason why I requested this, as myself and others who choose repaste on our own, we trust our own work and hands at this task.

Furthermore, as myself, there are others who ended up moving from US / Living outside US and don't have ASUS warranty support in the country, so everything relies on what we choose to do ourselvs.

Please share this specifications to the users, there is no reason of you hidding this, if one choose to do it on his own, we paid for this device, we own this device, and if we choose to handle thermals, its our right.

Hi MyRyzenWorld,
It is liquid metal thermal compound in G513QY. It is necessary to apply thermal paste and liquid metal thermal compound after disassembled the thermal module.
It would need the specific fixture and professional steps in our repair center.
If you disassemble it by yourself, the warranty would be void and might cause no boot issues.
Therefore, please don't disassemble the device to replace thermal pads by yourself
Thank you.

Hello,

I bought this laptop in USA (BestBuy) and now I am located in a remote location outside US, per ASUS and BestBuy, since now I am outside US, I am not eligible for Asus service center warranty, shipping the device to US would be $400. I already in a position where I MUST repaste since, the device came with a buggy vBios,
I had to open the cooling chamber to update the vBios with SPI. Now since chamber was opened, I must repaste and place proper thermal pads on VRM (Mosfits, choke) and vram.

I am hence asking again, please provide the thermal dimensions,

Thank you!

Asus support cant offer this information, here no one can tell either...where to find it?

I don't know the answer to your pad size questions but thought you might find this information worth reading about ASUS sales of these laptops

I don’t understand why this pad information is not given by Asus. If a consumer reasonably requests to do their own work, they could provide it, not like implicates them if does not work out, they simply say no warranty offered on this and void warranty .... which once done, they should provide the information.

In regards to sizing, (assuming ASUS don't supply it, the safe bet) perhaps mount the heatsink without thermal material, and using automotive feeler gauges or copper shims to determine rough void size and then determine how much compression you want/need as + to the initial gap found ?

and publish the sucess information ... you know with a suitable finger salute.

Perhaps ASUS should be more supportive but not like any other manufactuers are in laptops.

Why would ASUS support refuse to share thermal dimensions with me? didn't ASUS learnt already from this case and promised things would change moving forward?
