I will most likely pass on Alder Lake, if I would decide on building a new system it would depend on the spacing above the top x16 PCIe slot,.. I need 16.8mm clearance for my backplate,.. the Glacial board looks like it might have the clearance, would need to confirm first. As I prefer not using a riser on my GPU. Also the Glacial has an OEM water block, and I would not need to worry about pre-ordering hardware and waiting months for building water loop. That is the worst part for me anymore is trying to get hardware, or a new GPU is a nightmare nowadays,.. think I will set out on this one, and watch all the issues with DDR5, and all the other issues that will come up.

Alder Lake is likely to be extremely popular for new enthusiasts new CPU architecture and node, new memory standard DDR5 and PCIe expansion slot standard 5.0 in the SAME gen, has that ever even happened before? Although Raptor Lake I believe will offer more efficiency and performance for similar money.
For some it's just the right time to buy since they haven't updated for so long, and I understand that completely and wish them a great experience, but for me, I won't gain much from Alder Lake, Shamino and 5866Mhz CL21 DDR4 ruined Alder Lake for me, lolol...
Why does he have to be so good?
------
Yea I'm in the same boat - waiting on a new workstation GPU, payed for it three weeks ago but won't be getting it until 1st week December - gpu shortage they say. MSRP is $450, and even with free shipping it cost me $695, super-ouch!
And they already took my money from the PayPal account - GEEZ!
It's an Nvidia workstation graphics card and can only purchase through specific Nvidia > PNY > distributers > esellers, cannot just buy at Amazon or Newegg except through 3rd Party scalpers and sharks - I won't deal with the sharks.
So basically you just send them your money and get in line - on a waiting list.
On the positive side, it's a beautiful little graphics card HHHL (half height half length) double slot - can't stop thinking about it.

Z690 Extreme Glacial is the most beautiful motherboard I've ever seen in my life!
------
Anywho, back to overclocking those mem kits with the Z590 Apex:
5066Mhz 17 17 17 37 1T is the highest Mhz - lowest latency I could achieve "on air" from the Gskill 4800Mhz CL17 ultimate b-die kit
Could probably drop that tRFC 350 down to the b-die minimum of 336, if I really tried.
4800Mhz 16 16 16 37 1T 336 also feels really good.
3866Mhz CL14 profile I ran very briefly, it didn't feel as responsive with my work and statistical apps as the higher bandwidth profiles, but I've heard it's amazing for gaming. Sorry I don't have more information on that profile, didn't place much time into it since it felt really sluggish to my work applications - comparatively apparently, lol.

Thinking about grabbing a ROG Z690 Apex and a 12900K high-binned from Der8auer at CaseKing and a super-clocking Gskill DDR5 mem kit. lol
The Single-Thread performance boost from 11th gen to 12th gen is HUGE!
Z690 Apex:
1) Oversized superbig Post Code display - only the APEX board has that feature
2) Those extremely expensive flat capacitors mounted all around the LGA1700 socket and the DDR5 DIMM slots, OH YEA, only the APEX board has those
3) Beautiful metal work on those heatsinks, especially the large one for M.2 (2) placed between PCIe slots 1 and slots 2

The 4800 CL17 kit is vary solid with tight timings, trains well on Z590 Apex.
If your Ok on temps you can tighten your 5066Mhz profile a bit more,..

Wow tRFC of 265, how did you do it?
Tightest I got was the theoretical minimum for Samsung B-die at 4800Mhz - 336.
Chart below I circled the value in blue upper right box. lol hard to see. I guess this chart was produced long before the Gskill 4800/17 Super B-die kit was even possible, since no value is listed for 5066Mhz.

For the base line tRFC,.. I always start with 180 X the MHz, divided by 2000.
180 * 5066 / 2000 = 456,.. if that is stable, the next tRFC I try is half of that (228). If 228 is unstable, you know that your lowest tRFC is somewhere between 228 and 456, so you try the midpoint ( 228 + 456 ) / 2 = 342. If that is stable, you know that your lowest tRFC is between 228 and 342, so you try the midpoint and so on.

My little i5 11600K running 5.5Ghz Per Core, when I first got it, before the 4800/17 b-die and 5333/22 Hynix mem kits arrived - was still using an older b-die 4600/18 kit from Coffee Lake.
The little i5 11600K 6-core capable of:
5866Mhz CL21
5600Mhz CL20
5333Mhz CL19
5066Mhz CL17
4800Mhz CL16
Not too shabby for only $300.
Of course, the ROG Z590 Apex XIII motherboard makes it all possible.
