Maximus Extreme Z690 two M.2 SSDs placement

Quick question regarding Maximus extreme z690.

What is recommended installation slots for mobo in question when using two m.2 nvme SSDs ? I have one pcix3 and one pcix4 units. 970 pro and 980 pro

Maybe I need some explanations ....

According to the manual PCIX_1 and PCIX_2 both 16x ports share bandwidth with M.2_1

So first question, should I even use M.2_1 ? Second question M.2_2 is the second M.2 slot that is using CPU lines. And M.2_3 is M.2 that is using chipset PCIx lines.

So in my case using two M.2 drives is it correct to assume I have to use M.2_2 and M.2_3 for best performance on NVME and GPU ?

Hey,

You can also install of the M.2 NVMe's into the DIMM.2 slot. From what I heard and read, PCIE 4.0 is backwards compatible to 3.0. This way you will have the SSD's assigned to the chipset. You may also configure through the M2_2 and M2_3 slots as you mentioned and see how the performance meter is reached.
