Can't update ROG Strix z690-F Gaming Wifi section of Armoury Crate v4.2.12.0

MrPix2005
Level 7
I am trying to set the RGB on the mainboard to dark when the power is switched off as I can't sleep with a pulsing light.

I go to the devices section in AC and choose my motherboard and am requested to update before continuing.

I do this and it looks like it is updating but it errors out before completing the Device and Component update. The error is flashed up so quickly it is of no use so I pasted the Windows Event Log error below.

Please help me solve

Hi MrPix2005

Welcome to the ROG forum,

I'm fairly new to Armoury Crate myself and so far I haven't had any issues, although I'm on an older Z270 motherboard.

You should be able to turn the RGB off when the pc is off. On my motherboard it's found in the bios, Advanced tab, Onboard Devices configuration. Being you have a new Z690 motherboard, I don't know if this has changed.

From your event log and the description of your problem, it looks like you're having a problem connecting to the servers with the framework services. I've seen this twice and it looks to be with the services in Armoury Crate. I don't know of a quick or easy fix but if it's not too big of a deal, I'm 99.9% sure reinstalling windows or upgrading with a fresh install of windows 11 will solve the problem.

I'm using windows 11, I'm sure you know it's a free upgrade.

But let's check this first, do you have the latest version of Armoury Crate and are you able to update here?

Thanks for your response, I'll do my best to give you more information although don;'t take me wrong, it's nioce to chat... but I think others that actually have experience in this area would be better responding.

I'm already on Win 11 and sorry to be glib but the clue to half your questions is in the title of the thread: Can't update ROG Strix z690-F Gaming Wifi section of Armoury Crate v4.2.12.0

If I turn RGB off in the BIOS, nothing lights up 😞

Reinstalling windows is out of the question and should not be necessary at this point, that's like saying "get a new car because your tyre is a little down on air and a new car will have pumped up tyres!". The suggestion is not a valid or valued one, sorry. I have been in IT for over 40 years and this would be the absolute last resort.... a fix to this dilemma needs to be found.

I have the latest AC (as the title suggests) and no I'm not able to update the motherboard specific section (as the thread title also suggests).

hopefully somebody from Asus can chime in, or do I need to raise a ticket (do Asus even come to their own forum?)

Thanks again.

well, I don't need an IT degree to understand your motherboard isn't updating in Armoury Crate, and I'm pretty sure I know the reason why from your event log. As to why it happened, that I don't know.

If someone can provide you with a simpler solution, I'd be interested as well.
