I have PMed you the SN of the new board.
They will not be able to handle my return until next week so I have some more time to test this issue.
I will do a clean install of Windows on ONLY the SN850 today. I will not insert the Samsung drive and I will only install the mentioned programs.
I will disable the Power active management to avoid WHEA 17 errors.
I will update you when I know if/when this stops working.
After some thoughts I think it might be the XBOX Game Pass - The XBOX app, but that doesn't make much sense does it?

When you say you copied games from a backup, what does it mean? The games must be installed, no?

Hi,
So after a day setting up the computer and all my programs from scratch to the SN850, everything seemed to be going in the right direction. I installed Windows 11: 21H2 - 22000.438.
I copied in total 3 folders with a combined space of 163GB back and forward 4 times between my SN850 and an old 500GB mechanical spare drive. (652GB total). No crashes nothing "suspicious". The computer was running flawlessly. The only thing I noticed was an event there told me to do nothing - it keept coming, but I did not think it was a big deal. See attached screenshot please:
Can be downloaded here: https://postimg.cc/GBFYqXBZ
I honestly thought that I was "done" and everything was smooth with just the SN850 this time. I then copied my 3 games I had backup on from my D: - COD Vanguard, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 Infinity War & God of War and was getting ready to play.
Surprisingly still no serious event errors and the computer with this games seems to work. I have not gamed "hours", but they start and run fine.
Here are a list of ALL programs installed today:
Can be downloaded here: https://postimg.cc/mtMBJJwp
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I made an image of the entire SN850 drive, removed it and installed my Samsung 960 PRO 2TB NVMe M.2. I rolled the image out on the drive and Windows works flawlessly it seems and I get no strange errors except Event 18 telling me to do nothing. I can copy excessive amounts of DATA between C: and D: and vice versa. This drive has an up-time of 568 days, has been booted 1787ish times and has a health of 98%. According to Samsung's software, that is actually 100%, but Crystal makes awesome software, so let's believe them. Still there doesn't seem to be anything groundbreaking wrong with the drive:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so I seem to have concluded at least with all the tests I have done today, that both my drives work independently and the computer are "happy" as long as the drives are not mixed together.
I now tested both drives at the same time and to test I did the same as I did while testing earlier, copying data back and forward from one NVMe drive to the other not involving the mechanical drive.
Instantly I was hit with 48000+ Event Viewer errors.
Event 26, Event 50, 40000+ Event 51 and some Event 140:
I have now given you all the information I can think of, what more can I test? What can be the culprit for this to happen as it doesn't seem to be a hardware error and given that this is my second motherboard I gotta say it's highly unlikely it's faulty as well with the exact same issue as the first one.
It's also worth mentioning that deactivating Power Management do exclude WHEA 17 errors.
Let me know what you want me to do.
Thank you.Last edited by Wrathier; 01-20-2022 at 11:58 PM. Reason: Seems to work with 1 NVMe drive at a time yet at least. I will try both now. - THAT MESSED UP THE COMPUTER!

Hi Wrathier,
Which M.2 slots do you install WD Black SN850 1TB and Samsung 960 PRO 2TB?
WD Black SN850 1TB in M.2_1 and Samsung 960 PRO 2TB in M.2_2?
Thank you.Last edited by STARRAIN@ROG; 01-21-2022 at 06:19 AM.

Hi,
First I used the top one above the graphic card and then the one just below it. Then I tried the top one and the one lowest to the right as I then do not have to remove GFX.
When I use 1 drive I just use the top one above the GFX, seems to work when it's only 1 drive.
A little update to that. During the night I downloaded some torrents to my mechanical drive and I do not seem to be able to INSTALL larger amounts of data even that I could copy. I do not get any event viewer errors in this case, but was hit by a BSOD nearly instantly installing GTA V:

Mixing gen 4 and gen 3 drives
This thread led me to discover the apparent cause of a bunch of "failed overclocks" and general instability with windows corruption needing reinstall. I have found that my 980 pro 1tb drive is just fine by itself, however , introducing the gen 3 970 drives (2 of them 0.5 and 1tb, evo pro and pro), I get system instability and corruption yet again.
I have been pulling my hair out and now somewhat relieved by this understanding now. I have the 690-f board.

Hi ryanvs,
For WHEA 17 error, please enter Advanced Mode > Platform Misc Configuration > PCI Express Native Power Management > Disabled.
Does the surprise disk removal occurs with bios all default settings except PCI Express Native Power Management disabled?
Do both SSDs disappear in windows or just get the event error but the SSDs are working fine?
Which M.2 slots do you install Samsung 980 pro 2tb and HP EX920 1tb?
Thank you.
