I dont think it is the bios. There is something else going on. CPU or MB. I saw on overclocker.net a couple people get defective cpus and mbs that wouldnt run XMP.
Many are running single and dual rank at 3600-4000+ so if you cant I would bet is an issue somewhere else besides bios.
If you havent done the basic trouble shooting like 1 dim at a time testing each slot I would start there. If you find a slot that allows xmp and 1 that doesnt then you can proceed from there as it is a hardware problem. a2 and b2 are the correct slot of 2x8 or 2x16.
It is difficult to diagnose problems without multple cpus and mb to swap parts.

It is definitely a BIOS issue. 0707 works albeit unstable. Cannot even boot to windows on any other BIOS version. I have tried different set of RAM sticks, and even ordered a second 12900K. https://i.imgur.com/oJXJ69P.png

I didnt know you where trying to run 4x16. It is not on the QVL or Gskill mem compatibily list for the MB so no suprise with doesnt work with XMP.
Looking at Gskill site they show 4x16 as compatible with looser timings so you will probably have to manually loosen them until or if they ever release a bios that can run them at tigther timings. People are having issues with 4x8 so I am suprised you can even run 4x16 with tight timings at 3600.

TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 memory
my board is TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4
memory - 4x8gb kit gskill 18-22-22-42
12900k
all values - default except
Ai Overclock Tuner [XMP II]
XMP [XMP DDR4-4000 18-22-22-42-1.35V]
ASUS MultiCore Enhancement [Enabled – Remove All limits]
--------------
unstable at tuf bios Version 0707
and at Version 0807 stability is possibly even worse
crash in tests aida64 stability after 1-3 minutes,
occt errors on cores after 3-5 minutes
1-2 bsod per workday
how i solved the problem:
firstly i noticed
the system works stably if you start from scratch and go into the BIOS, manually adjust the timings
you need to set manual those that the system shows in the current ones. as I understand they were obtained during training
The main thing here is
MCH Full Check [Enabled]
Training Profile [Standard Profile]
after the manual set this values and the MCH Full Check [Enabled] (disable at default),
stability at aida64 and occt no errors - 1 hour test
there are currently no bsod
maybe it will be useful for those who have ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4

Strix z690 A d4 bios 812
Testing 4x16 3600c14
I didnt do a long memory test as if no one is interested I am not going to spend the time. CMO should work for 4x8 also. You could bump up speed for 4x8 I would think to 3866+. Havent tested but I do have a 4x8 I could test but wont as if 4x16 can do this I know 4x8 can do more easy.
Also before bios 812(tested 003, 707, 803, 808) I would get cashes at idle/low load if using AI oc. To fix need to set static v core voltage. No isssue like that with 812.
If someone want to test cmo file let me know and I will make one and post
Edit I am using 2 pair of mismatched ram kits of 4000c14 and 3600c14 so this is not ideal and still works.

vary nice.
I just got my Asus Strix z690 ddr4 board and 12900k
I have 8gb x 4 sticks of team group extreme 4133 MHz
cl-18-18-81-38 @ 1.40v xmp
@ 4000 MHz cl 17--17-17-37 @ 1.45v manual rest auto
bios 807 .
my question is where can get bios 812 ?,
is bios 812 better then bios 807 for 8gb x4 from the Asus support page bios d/l ?
this ram is @ 4133 MHz cl 16-16-16-36 1.50v doing 37 NS with my 9900 ks @ 5.2 GHz in a cheap gigabyte z390 pro wifi stable in evrything.
4000 cl 17 boots in gear 1 and 4133 cl 18 boots in gear 113900k @5.8 P | 4.5 E | 5.1 R | @1.35v | 32GB DDR4 @4300 c-15-16-16-32 @ G1 | RTX 4090 | 27" 1440p 270Hz G-Sync

For me it is the best bios by far, allows for much lower sa/vddq with dual rank b die. i didnt test the others on 4 sticks so I have no idea how they do.

I think if you can get anything over 3866 you are doing good with 4x8. Depends on subtiming and IMC also. Might be able to run 4000 to 4133 with looser timings.Last edited by bscool; 12-18-2021 at 11:35 AM.

I am having the same problem Hero z690 with a 12900 on Windows 11 bios 803 with 64g DDR5 Corsair Vengeance 4800, XMP works fine until I play a game then 10 mins in the game crashes, under ram timings I also tried mode 1 and 2 as this has helped in the past on prior motherboards but not luck. XMP 2 does not work for me it blue screens. Everything is stable with XMP off, I noticed some Reddit posts are popping up with this issue on Asus boards also, something funky is going on.
UPDATE: XMP1 at 4266mhz is stable, best game to trigger errors quickly is Watch Dogs Legion.Last edited by phatmonkey; 12-21-2021 at 10:47 AM.
