I was getting these rare and totally random events
Like I have a few programs open and switching between apps and task manager and something could randomly crash. I traced it down to when I have GPU Tweak II set for Gaming profile and with the fan in 0db mode. So the solution was to set the profile to silent if fan is going to be in 0db mode or disable 0db for using the other high performance modes.
I should also emphasize that there were no other signs of instability, and it acted like a graphics crash.

Sort of an update on these random spurious task manager crashes. I've had a few more of them in the last month while troubleshooting other issues. I no longer think gputweak II or the fan speed had anything at all to do with it. A google search seems to indicate that task manager crashing is not so uncommon when it comes to crashing apps. Also, if I do a disk cleanup of temp files it seems to alleviate the issue.

If optimizing the system disk really made a difference, that's scary. Make sure you have a backup of anything important. If it's only happening a few times per month it's going to be hard to evaluate though.

I believe you, it's just whenever there is odd behavior related to the system disk it makes me nervous. I'm not even suggesting any hardware issue. I fully believe Windows has the ability to break itself

Hi again, I pasted the last three occurrences from the event log. And the file details for that module that is involved. I also searched the web on some of the keywords and found other people getting what looks like the same crash. And for me, if I use the windows setup - storage section - temp files, and delete temp files and DirectX Shader cache, the problem seems to go away for awhile. The problem is most noticeable after doing software installations, as I have been reinstalling things while attempting to optimize the system. Made a lot of progress on that front.
