Time for a full network system refresh. What firmware should I use?

Hello, as the title states, I am planning on doing a full system refresh. I had numerous problems last year and basically gave up after I reinstalled a firmware that was at least somewhat reliable after which I disable auto-updating the firmware. Since last year I haven' been able to add any new 2.4Gz devices to the network but at least I haven't had to play the daily/weekly reboot game.

I know my setup, listed below, is probably highly unique so this is probably a longshot so any help would be appreciated.

What firmware version should I be running?
What would be the best sequence to follow when refreshing the network? Primary router factory reset, then install the latest firmware, then what?
I've seen numerous recent posts suggesting people should turn off the AiProtect, is this necessary?

I like to think that the programmers are competent enough to fix more things than break things, so I almost always update to the latest firmware. (My current REVVL V+ 5G is one case where I tried to avoid one update as best as I could because of a clear bug what wiped out my microSD card memory).

It's 1st update firmware (ASUS is my choice) and 2nd hard reset. I'd start with the router, then do each node.

I'd like to believe that too, unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I finished resetting everything and once again my 2G connections are highly sporadic. Very frustrating.

Do you use VPN Fusion? Reason I ask is I actually considered buying a RT-AX89X, and running it as a main router to my AXE11000. You aren't the first to complain about 2.4 GHz WiFi, and it seems the AX11000 seems to go along with that complaint. My only concern was never having dealt with SFP+ ports and potential difficulty getting a compatible converter to 10 G Ethernet. That aside you're looking at a faster 2.2GHz CPU, and only other difference would be no VPN fusion from what I gleamed.

I gave up on the VPN Fusion a long time ago. Now with different services restricting VPN connections, it's made VPNs unusable for me anyway. I use PIA as needed now instead of a hardware/centralized solution.

For the 2.4Ghz problems, I think I just figured something out today. When enabling the guest networks, it caused all 2.4ghz. channels to become unusable. Turned them off and BAM, all good now. No clue why but I'm now happy! I posted it in a separate post to hep others out.

Thanks for your help/advice in other threads.

I took a peek at your MikroTik switch. That's some switch, my wife complained about my TrendNet 2.5 G purchases to get 2.5 G backhaul. I have two 8 ports wall mounted together to distribute to the whole house, then a couple of 5 ports desk mounted...

I still think you should try the AX89X as main router and get 10G backhaul going from it. You may see some improvement....
