LOL, you the best ROG brother.
This thread is off the rails a bit but that's ok, we get emotional about the things we truly love.
OK ROGers, we're all facing a brand new dilemma - the very obvious fact we might purchase a poorly performing Z790 ROG motherboard.
We must find a solution...
Albert and I have constructed a plan of action:
1) The 1st Z790 Apex shipping container is set to arrive at Newegg California City of Industry on November 30th
2) We have a "60-day Holiday Return Window" to work with - return for full refund or another Apex board until January 31st 2023
3) It only takes 2days of testing to know if your new ROG board is a good one or a bad one
4) Newegg even pays return shipping
60days is plenty of time to test and evaluate your new ROG board.Last edited by iBruceypoo; 11-04-2022 at 07:45 PM.

Ok, gonna try, with 7200 i get into windows and all works, but in games (like bf2042) the games crashes because of the memory errors. I don t get bsod btw.
Edit: i set xmp i then switched the frequency to 7000mhz and now i don’t get errors on memtest. I ll stick with that and wait for proper bios on the official page.Last edited by GiulianoTakasu; 11-05-2022 at 03:55 AM.

Hello,
At frequencies where signal margins can be quite tight, these kinds of assurances simply don't exist. The Z690 Apex technical specification states 6600MT max, Z790 is far higher, not least of all due to the CPUs. There are a multitude of reasons why this is, however, no vendor can guarantee success and this is the nature of overclocking.
The further we increase frequency, it's not only the memory kit guard-band we are eating into. Any PCB carrying a signal will have some kind of variance. Some of these variances can be dialled out with MRC settings and voltages that are sensitive to small changes, others are limited by physics or component thresholds outside of our control (not least of all CPU variances). Moreover, the IO the kit is rated at is based on both primary and a number of secondary timings which is another reason the board QVL exists. The kits are also binned at stock CPU frequency.
The TLDR would be that when we push the envelope across multiple clock domains on numerous combinations of hardware, one can't expect equal results every time. That said, it's always fun to be able to see just where these limitations lie.

that is true, for DDR5 every small variable can have a really great impact on stability
one of the reasons I insisted to buy the new DDR5 kit w/o any RGB, signal integrity and voltage stability are a bit... better
although they say now that RGB is ok and not influencing at all its performance stability etc, and if so, it's neglectable and so on... bottom point is that it's selling better if it has lights =))
back in the good old days they were more responsible, so the RGB stuff was completely separated from the rest of the PCB...
