    Question Z790 Hero - Samsung 990 Pro vs 980 Pro 2TB question

I think i have issue with my Samsung 990 Pro (M.2_1) vs 980 Pro (M.2_3). Both 2 TB.

My 990 Pro using Samsung Magician to Bench.
Read would get 6950+ . Sometime a little over 7040. Every boot.. every test seems to varies. But never close to advertised 7400.
Write would get 6000-6720. It varies . Yes... The write is sometimes very close to advertised 6800.

My 980 Pro using Samsung Magician to Bench.
Read would get 6850 and Write is 5200. I would have expect some gap on read between 990 Vs 980. But they seems very identical. I know 980 Pro has low write speed than 990. So that is that the issue.

The issue is why would be 990 Pro speed not able to get to 7300+? Its seems same as 980 Pro. It should have a good gap on read between 990 Pro vs 980 Pro.

What is everyone's 990 Pro bench Read Speed?
I also tried to put 990 Pro into (M.2_2). almost the same result on read..

I have had the drive about two weeks and I tested it just after I got it and again just now.

I have similar results with default Microsoft 6/21/2006 Version 10.0.22621.608 driver.

Seeing better results with winraid forums Samsung modded driver, optimized CDM settings.

Perhaps Microsoft will release a 990 Pro 2023 signed driver,.. seems the default 2006 driver is indeed out dated.

I have a Z790 Hero with i9 13900KF, 64 GB GSkil Z5 6000 RAM. Two 980 Pro's in M.2_2 and M.2_3 in RAID 0 and two 990 Pro's in RAID 0 in the Hyper M.2 card in PCIe _4 slot. The 990 Pro's are the boot drive. Using Crystal Diskmark I get read scores of 15,000+ from the 990's and 14,000+ from the 980's. Which appears to be pretty good performance. RAID 0 appears to about double single drive performance.

Have you checked to see if your drives have the degraded health issue that was recently reported for the 990 and 980 Pro's? Crystal Diskinfo reports all four of my drives at 100% health. This is the first time I seem to have drawn a lucky straw on computer technology. Samsung Magician won't report any information on these drives (I'm guessing it's because their are in RAID 0 configuration), so I hope the Crystal Diskinfo is accurate. I have one bit of evidence that leans me in the direction that CDI is accurate because one of my 980 Pro's was bought as refurbished from Best Buy and that drive shows more data written to it than the other 980, but both drives show health of 100%. There must be someway for certain sellers to reset the health indicator, otherwise I would have expected to see something less than 100% on the refurbished drive. Supposedly, Samsung has issued a firmware update for both drives that fixes the health degradation.
