Could you post the link for the alpha version of memtest that you are using please.
I ran the above memtest over night last night too.

It was running for about 45 mins before I went to bed with no errors.

When I got up this morning, the pc had crashed in the night, and tried to boot into windows startup repair (and then crashed doing that and locked up).

I tried several times to reboot into windows and it failed.

So I booted into memtest, instantly hundreds of errors.

I tried several times to reboot, and got nowhere.

In the end I went into the bios, changed 1 setting, saved then went back into the bios, changed that setting back, and saved again.

Then I booted into memtest and got 0 errors on a quick 5 min test.

And I have so far been running windows for about an hour now with no probs.

I am starting to wonder if this is actually a motherboard issue instead of memory ?

As it seems once the errors arrive, the only way to get the system to boot and run for any period of time, is to switch or alter the bios in some way.

I am very very confused at the moment.

That memory is not tuned for X79. In addition, running 2 kits together (even of the same part number) is not a good idea. The only way to get that memory running well on the X79 is to manually tweak all the timings and sub timings. Since you are RMA the memory, I strongly suggest your pick up a quad channel kit bin matched set that comes with the appropriate XMP for X79. I beleive many of your issues will be solved.

In cpu-z it shows the ram running as quad channel (when all 4 sticks are being used).

In the bios if I select xmp it picks up the correct profile of the memory (9-9-9-24 1600mhz, 1.5v iirc).

If I don't use xmp setting , and manually set to 1600mhz, 1.5v it's still detected as running 9-9-9-24 in memtest

Also currently I am only using 2 sticks of ram (the 2 good sticks from the earlier tests).

I wonder if your bios chip is not corrupted.

Do you have the same BIOS's on both A and B bios?

And doe the strange behaviour only happen on one BIOS?
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

I have 1101 on 1 chip (currerntly using) and 1305 on the other (1305 seems to make the problem worse, as I found it very difficult to run windows for more than about an hour, before i'd have errors of some kind).

But over all I guess it's similar behaviour on both, so that kind of rules out a corrupt bios.

Ok since my earlier posts today, I conacted the supplier and managed to get an RMA number from them for the memory.

But they don't think that there is an issue with it, as they think it's VERY unlikely I have a problem with 2 sticks let alone 3 or 4.

So... now i've started looking at other options.

The memory is listed as 1600mhz, and indeed it has been running fine at 1600mhz since feb2012 when I purchased it.

However I started getting errors in internet explorer again earlier on, so I shutdown and ran memtest again.

Instantly thousands of errors again (remember this is on the 2 sticks that were originally still showing as good).

So I went into the bios, and changed from 1600mhz to 1333.

Ran memtest again for 2 pass's with 0 errors.

Booted into windows with no issue's and let it run for a while.

I then booted into memtest again, and there were still no errors.

Back into the bios and turned it up to 1600mhz again.

Restart memtest and instantly lots of errors.

So I have gone back to 1333mhz, and put all 4 sticks back in, and ran memtest with 0 errors for over an hour.

I am reluctant now to do an RMA on the memory as it will mean I won't have a pc until sometime next week at the earliest, unless I buy more memory, but if they are right and the memory isn't the fault, I will just be wasting more money as the fault will still be there at 1600mhz.

So does anyone have any idea's what else other than memory can be causing my problems ?

Just to update this, I decided to RMA the 4 sticks of memory to the supplier.

They confirmed that they were all faulty and replaced them.

2 days turn around, I can't complain at that.

I will run memtest over night, but hopefully all my issue's are over now

So I ran memtest over night.

    And it has errors again.

Brand new ram, and still getting errors.

If I were you I'd run 4.20 and not an alpha version full of bugs!

    5.01a supports the SB-E chips, I don't think 4.20 does.

But I will re-run the tests overnight tonight with 4.20.
