Help! Usb doesnt work and drivers are all up to date.

So my usb is just not working at all. I've tried uninstalling and letting windows reinstall by itself. Updating drivers does nothing. the error message im getting is "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)"

USB 2.0 doesn't work ?

Check in BIOS if the USB has been disabled or something.

Tried that everything looks good. tried editing the registry (deleting lowers and uppers) uninstalling, and updating the drivers, troubleshooting from microsoft. nothing. I'm at a loss.

If this is a recent problem, try using Windows System Restore to restore your system to a time before the problem first occurred.

What model ASUS laptop do you have?

System Restore does sound like a good first line of defense here. IF that doesn't resolve it, or if you have System Restore turned off (grrr....why do so many people do that!), you could try the Windows Hardware Troubleshooter:



  • Open the Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel search box, type "troubleshooter"
  • Click Troubleshooting from the search results
  • Under Hardware and Sound, click "Configure a device"
  • Run the wizard and see it it re-enables your USB devices
