Help with Phoebus: Everything sounds slightly behind me when playing BF3

Hi Everyone,

I got my new Phoebus and really like the surround sound qualities this card produces however it seems like the setting on the card make it seem like everything is flush with me or just behind me. Even when a guy is shooting in front of me it sounds like he is flush with me (i.e. standing to the side of me) Do you all have any suggestions on how I might fix this in the Dolby or Phoebus software control panels?

Thanks in advance!

Which headphones are you using?

I don't use any of the surround modes while gaming with my Senn 580s and get the perception of effects from all directions (even overhead type effects are rendered well). Usually open back phones do a better job at creating a "forward" image than close can types where everything generally sounds in the head.

Hi Raja,

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I turned off surround and for some reason the "hi-fi" mode was clicked (hand to face) on the BF3 control panel once turned it back to headphone mode all is much better.

Thanks!

Ahh ok cool. I was wondering where all that SNR had disappeared to. Usually a higher SNR correlates to the perception better separation of sounds and instruments.
