Is it possible to change graphics card on a G75VW?

    Yes.

Was just wondering if anyone know if its possible to change graphics card on the G75?

    For future upgrades.

Due to the past G74SX experience, which didn't allow to change the GPU (it was soldered directly on the motherboard), the myth of the non upgradable G75 born. False. The G75 sports a real graphic card on a MXM slot and, so, an upgrade should be possible. The same happened on the G73JH, where many users upgraded the current Radeon HD 5870M to a brand sparking new HD 6970 - HD 6990M. It required some saw-job on the cooler, tho.

It's not on the G75, although the G55 is.

It's unlikely to be compatible with many other cards though due to the fact it's a custom PCB size, even though the socket is MXM. Bear in mind you can't just drop a 680M or whatever in there as there are power and cooling limitations to the socket.

Yes Marshall, I realized that (I am Marino of www.bitsandchips.it and www.dinoxpc.com) when I opened the notebook to make some inspection (we are writing a complete review + video).

The VGA PCB is CUSTOM size, but the connection is standard MXM, allowing upgrades. Basically and technically, the problems in swapping a graphic card are the different position of the mounting holes, and some "reworking" on the cold plate of the CPU Cooler, since it is made to embrace a different sized video card. For voltage problems, as experience teach us, they have to be checked case by case.

Happened the same with the G73JH: people said that it was impossible to upggrade the GFX card and we dropped in a Radeon HD 6970M easy. To switch to the Radeon HD 6970-6990 it was needed some edge - cutting of the plate and a new power supply.

It would be fine if it is planned to release new models of G75 with GTX 680, so people can buy directly the MXM card from Asus and avoid these technical problem.

Please check the fan noise thread, I have sent you a pm. Thanks.

The maximum draw from my laptop has been 90watz runing prime95 and furmark. And my ac power supply is a 160watt unit if that means anything.

So it's fine. It will just be a mechanical problem (cutting the cold plate of the cooler and relocate some mounting holes, exactly like what we have done with the G73).
