Xeon X3440 (Lynnfield) in Maximus III Gene?

i am curious will a Intel Xeon X3440 based on the Lynnfield core with in my Maximus III Gene motherboard?

bcs it's about 100USD cheaper than a i7-860/870 and it got HT (Hyper-Threading).

i use bios 2103 on my board ^^

i have seen Kvjavs @ overclockers.net has or had a X3440 in his Maximus III Gene board: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1628525

Xeon chips are able to work in either a xeon board or an i7 board. You can't use an i7 in a xeon board though. From what I see the x3440 is only slightly cheaper than the 860 and it is slightly slower so I don't think you'll gain anything by using it. It will be easier to sell an 860 later when you upgrade.

the X3440 is made for LGA1156 and it's only 296USD in my country and an i7-870 is about 369USD ino it's only about 70USD i save but it's a lot for me, when i don't have that much money and they should run 4ghz really well have seen that several places ^^

i was thinking about an i7-875K but it's about 436USD but i don't wanna pay that much for a new cpu, if i can't find a used one when Sandy Bridge is out.

Just stay away from Engineering Samples because there are greater chances of compatibility issues. Sometimes they are cheaper but if the chip doesn't work then it's not worth the price
