ROG G75V - 660M does not spool up

Hey guys, just got this new lappy and cant figure out why the GTX660M will only run at 405mhz. I ran 3DM11 and score P2546. That is pathetic. A S1156 i5 and a GTX460 kicks the **** out of that. The 660M isnt hitting full speed. I have Power4Gear set to High Performance. Also, whats up with Asus Live Update? It doesnt seem to do anything.

EDIT: I was just playing a movie on the G75V and noticed it is very funky. If 2.1 sound is enabled, audio sounds as if it only comes from left channel. If set to 2.0, sound is barley audible.

I thought the 660M ran at 835MHz? As for the Asus Live Update, pretty much everyone reccommends you uninstall that as it doesn't work properly.

You thought right, except it wont. i have the latest Chipset and nvidia driver installed, downloaded from Asus support. Why isnt a driver for the 660M available at nvidia.com?

I don't believe there has been a driver update for the 600M series of cards yet. I have the 670M and am running version 290.69, which is what my laptop came with. Was your card working properly before you downloaded from Asus Support? I'm not really sure what could be the issue...maybe somone will chime in on the situation 🙂

The driver I dl'd from Asus is 8.17.12.9644. Not sure what previous driver was or if it worked because I updated Win7 and drivers right out of the box. Since when does anyone use drivers from CD or moldy drivers from factory install? 😉

There are new drivers for 600M series cards. But it only applies to a select few. I tried the driver and it wont install with 660M. Actually, there isnt a driver listed period at nvidia for a 660M card. Nice.

It does appear to speed up when playing BF3, as BF3 looked good and frame rates were good. But it wont hit full speed running 3DM11. 405mhz is all it will do.

Another thing I noticed is that this lappy is hardly worthy of the ROG designation. Either that, or ROG dropped the standards immensely. Where is the overclocking ability? Non-existant in BIOS. The BIOS for that matter is pathetically lame for a ROG. Hardly an 'enthusiast' machine. This lappy is no different than any other of same CPU class. Actually, inferior to. It was however, priced decently. Had there been a DELL with same specs at the store, that is what I would have gone home with. Dont get me wrong. I am not here to bash Asus or ROG. Just wondering how this machine managed to garner the ROG designation. Please tell me what is so special about it to warrant being in the ROG line-up.

Xman. you cannot overclock the ivy bridges unless there an extreme. it was the same for sandy bridge. its also the fact that its made by asus lol.

HELL YA you can oc a Sandybridge! Ask me or many others how to run a 2600K at 5106MHZ. Or are you referring to mobile CPUs? I believe many of them can be overclocked also.

Again, not here to bash. Just find it odd that this lappy is in ROG lineup. I have owned many ROG motherboards and there was always something or a bunch of things that made it stand above others. I just dont see that here. It so far has met expectations for what it is, other than the 3DM11 issue.

And back to the issue. Anyone else have this happen with a 660M?

It's got the stealthy black rubberized coating and the fake exhaust port on the left side. Really - what more do you need?
