Spam/Flames/Adverts = Ban

Retired
Not applicable
HELLO ROG COMMUNITY MEMBERS,

Just giving a heads up to everyone, new or old that any form of spam or trolling will lead to a lifetime ban with IP logged.

if you put anything in your signature encouraging a form of purchasing a product, this is classified as spam.

if you are leaving useless comments/posts in threads, or rewriting the same information that has already been said and not contributing anything useful, this is considered trolling and you will be banned.

if you are a system reseller or system integrator that wants to put an advert in their signature, please post in the site feedback so we know who you are 🙂

Sorry about those counting posts. My bad Brian. Didn't think it was a big deal. They have been removed.

Very good, point @Brian, I have just reported two! advertising posts in the last few minutes. All told, I have had to report a half a dozen or more. A note of encouragement to the mods--great work cleaning up reported posts/threads! You guys rock! A community that is built on mutual respect and trust cannot survive with spammers--especially the cyber-crime dudes--or trolls. Thanks for the warning. I, especially as a recent n00b, would appreciate a fair warning before banning, because we aren't all familiar with the ins and outs of forums. Maybe one warning?
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We always warn real people...and we can tell the difference. There have been a few guys advertising their business during the course of normal posting and we gave them a warning. The spam bots that post nothing but links and advertisements are insta-ban.

There seems to be another wave of zombie spammers showing up. Any chance I could become a half-mod? I would like to help the community by eliminating the spam posts, since they annoy so many people. I appreciate the work of mods like @xero, and I am more than willing to help. What would I have to do to be able to help in this way?

PM Richard. It would be his decision. 🙂

However, don't expect a few more mods to make it all go away. Nobody is here 24/7 so they'll always show up for a while before someone gets to them. Due to the high profile of the asus.com domain we will always get spam and that's just the way it is. They don't care if we take it down as long as a few eyeballs or the search engine crawlers see it first. 😞

What do they hope to achieve by annoying the community? None of us are going to buy credit card #'s. All they do is cause problems...thanks to all the mods for cleaning them up! IP bans are our friends. 🙂

Which Richard? I PM'ed Richard@ASUS some time ago, and he never replied.

Richard is MarshallR@ASUS.

As to what they hope to gain? Not sure. Maybe they are getting takers; even if we ignore them random visitors might not. Some of the spam seems SEO related as well which doesn't require our participation at all. Or maybe the only goal *is* to annoy. I've wondered from time to time if a disgruntled ASUS customer might try to exact revenge by attacking the forum. It's petty and childish but some people have more resources and free time than maturity.
