Lots of hardcore gamers want several GPUs in their machine, so I'm not so sure triple slot cards are very pro gamer... certainly not when the cost of the cards are so prohibitively expensive and you don't get 200% performance for the 200% price tag...
Galaxy are rumoured to be releasing a single slot air-cooled GTX680 - you could put two in a Gene motherboard AND still have room for a soundcard... the RoG cards are built in such a way that even if you took off the cooler and water cooled it, you'd still take up two slots because of the shape of sockets and power connectors.
I think there are some really nice things that ROG do, and they do them really well, but there are some gaps in the line up if you're wanting to really cater to the gamers... a nice gaming mouse, gaming keyboard, some different cases (perhaps to show of the nice motherboards), an ROG branded monitor with some extra feature (ideally that feature being a bezel so thin that three next to each other would be perfect for gaming)... And as a personal favour - can you do a laptop with a big screen ... been wanting a laptop with an 18" screen (or 20" like the HP Dragon that they don't do any more) but don't really want to buy a dell...
I REALLY REALLY REALLY like the aesthetic of ROG stuffs, and love the feature set... just think that there should be more stuff to lust after.
Oh, and while we're at making wishlists - a box with an HDMI in an HDMI out, and connectors for 7.1 speakers, combined with an ROG set of sweet 7.1 speakers, in that beautiful black and red ROG motive ...
Hmm can I have a job in your product planning office?

It sure sounds like you should, @Myranda, I hear by nominate you to senior ROG product planning specialist/community liaison
since you seem to have all the products for the next decade planned out. Honestly, I don't think that a G85VW would really fly at all, considering how large the G75 is already. Now an N85 could be a real hit, especially with some really awesome speakers. Sort of the like the NX90JQ, only with a GPU more powerful than the GT335M. Maybe a GTX670M and that same design would be really cool. Focus more on the multimedia types who want it all, not just the gamers who count framerates like professional bridge players count cards...

Im glad im not the only one seeing these problems as everyones information helps.
I am really glad others see the layout of the Pci slots a problem too.
Like i said this is a discussion to freely point out what you like and dont like, it does not mean you have to participate in the poll or agree or dissagree with me completely, like everyone here is inputting problems, but at the same time still voting its gamer and overclocker balanced.
I am one person, I could be wrong because of my views and how I see things I could be thinking they strayed away, or just not looking into it enough and all these discussions help me understand to where I may be pinpointing problems that seem to go away from gamers is just a flaw in product design atm.

Cody, I understand what your trying to say and that's why my gripes got listed. I picked my board for many reasons but Gaming was on the top of my list. But here they are in order so Others can see where my planing was.
1) Reputation (Now I'm not so sure of Asus)
2) Quality (Is it going to last me atleast 2years because unlike a lot of People here I'm not Richie Rich)
3) Can it handle the Games I like?
4) How Much is it going to cost me to build?
5) What is the Warranty if something should Break?
6) Can I tune it for the performance I want in a Work/Game system?
7) How does it compare to Gigabyte/ECS/Foxcom/and Zontac?
8) What features and Parts does it come with.
Now as you can see OC'in isn't really on that list but only to Tune the system for what I need not an 8gilomegashizank OC on one core but as simple as a 4.0ghz OC on a 965Black that really makes it run smoother and more Stable on all 4 cores. Also you can see I do consider Work ahead of Gaming because well Like most of the people out there I don't just use it for Gaming only and I do make money from what I do on my Computer.

I did not read all the dissertations that this thread contain, but do get the general idea. I think that the game and OC kind of go hand in hand. I OC my CHV, but only to improve the game. I do like doing the OC and seeing how high and stable I can get it, but this is for the game.
I'm not going to sit here for hours doing it. Rather play Counter Strike. So I think ROG is for both, however they could start a ROOC and make high end boards with that branding. (If they do It was my idea first and I want 5% of all profits) Have built in heaters and LN2 pots, no intergated sound or video. Extra CPU power ports and the like. stuff like that. Sell Asus ROOC test benches the works. You can name the first board "The Speed". (I still want my 5% of everything).

Apart from extra slots, what has the Pro got that the GENE doesn't have? mATX isn't slower because it's smaller - we've still posted 7GHz LN2 results from the GENE.
About Formula boards, They are mainly focused torwards AMD and HIGHEND intel sockets meaning 2011/1366 as example...
Crosshair = High-end AMD
Maximus = Mainstream Intel
Rampage = High-end Intel
GENE = mATX Gamer
Formula = ATX Gamer
Extreme = ATX Overclocker.
The 4-way SLI, OC focused Extreme board to the mid-range Pro is comparing two entirely different markets.
On top of that, let me also say this, Regarding ROG Boards, How come you guys can do the regular boards and space the x16's across with any other pci slot better then the ROG boards?
Regarding the new Desktop yes, its HIGH-END remember, most gamers do not care for HIGH-END as a HIGH-END computer costs up to around 500$ a part, meaning Processor, Motherboard, Memory(lower), SSD, HDD(lower), Case(prolly cost if made to public like 150+ due to some of its features like the overclocking part).
Launching Headsets is not too big of a market due to there are many headsets for certain gamers and entering the Headset market against Steelseries/Razer/Mionix/Logitech/ect. is a VERY ruff market,
I do hear what you're saying about the triple slot graphics cards though, but it's not something I can control. It's been brought up internally before, but for now they are committed to it.
The thing is - you just want a Pro board in red with SupremeFX IV and GameFirst II, right? They aren't going to build it sorry. Reviewers focus on overclocking and having as many features on a board as possible and gaming websites don't review motherboards. Look how well the Fatal1ty boards have been recieved - still red n black and doesn't really OC as well, but how do people rate them vs a Formula? It's a niche that works for us.Last edited by _; 06-12-2012 at 01:50 AM.

@MarshallR@ASUS, I understand your point, but you are not entirely correct.
If Maximus equals Mainstream intel and Formula equals ATX Gamer (Mainstream intel ATX Gamer), why do we see Asus supplying the Maximus V Formula for extreme OC testing (before the commercial release) = http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...untry=&status=
and not having it tested by a ROGamer, in order to test its gaming performance?

Im still standing at Formula still is all AMD + HIGHEND INTEL, meaning AMD Boards and 2011 socket + 1366 socket which both processors cost are WAY up there compared to Gaming mainstream processors like the i5 2500k which is FAR more then enough for average to professional gamer.
Regarding GOR52 about testing with ROGamers I completely agree, I have tried getting on a boat with asus about things like this but now I cant get ahold of anyone because people are going In and out of marketing atm and Masaru Fujita and I were speaking about Gaming with Asus ALOT then he dissapeared and now awaiting on the new person, I liked where Masaru was going with things personally...
Regarding the Extreme board just in general, what if a gamer wants 3/4 way SLI but theres no PCI Slot to accompany a Soundcard? Ive always wondered that as other competitors are doing the same with better Built in Soundcards or even the option for a PCI Slot sound card via a open PCI slot above the first PCI ex16 slot?
and onto my Biggest concern with your post...
"""""Reviewers focus on overclocking and having as many features on a board as possible and gaming websites don't review motherboards. Look how well the Fatal1ty boards have been recieved - still red n black and doesn't really OC as well, but how do people rate them vs a Formula? It's a niche that works for us."""""""
Reviewers are not the ones who buy your products.
Many features to some people is good, many features that are useless to people are bad.
Features people can utilize are good, Features Most people cant utilize are bad.
And once again Formula is mainly based on AMD + High end Intel sockets. From still what I have seen TO DATE as I am a Intel fan and will never goto AMD for a processor only.
Because if Formula was a Gamer board why would you guys skip socket 1155 which is todays most gamer socket used via INTEL, and go straight to socket 2011 skipping the Most used gaming socket period atm?
Leave GENE Out of this as I want to discuss as you labeled Formula Gamer, Yes you did that with Gene as well but Gene is mATX, I am talking ATX atm.
and yes... I know about the Formula z77 its the only thing ROG with me atm, as its finally come out. Like I said though you guys passed up z68 and p67 till now which I still think was a bit lame...
Only thing that worries me is price tag which ive heard rumors of 290$ buttttttttttt I still think thats too high and asus would not do that to this board regardless.
But back to what I was saying hrmmm....
On top of that, all the reviews are Overclockers postings, never a gamer posting about if its really gamer oriented as anyone or any company can say its for gamers, but real gamers will let you guys know its for a gamer.
Im really glad though we are finding some things out here.
Appreciate the time Marshall =) Because it looks like we got a nice active topic for some of the Veteran Asus members haha.Last edited by Cody_Irwin; 06-12-2012 at 08:05 AM.

The same reason you see the other companies LN2 OCing on UD3s or whatever. The proverbial penile swinging contest between companies to see who can get higher numbers to win media news reports. Welcome to the world of PR.
But generally speaking no ASUS products are ever made exclusively for one market. They are tailored for certain ones but will never limit themselves to one area. You have to be inclusive looking not exclusive. Moreso if you're producing for a niche market, because of the v.high cost of exclusive feature R&D.
Simply: Sales drive everything. The is true for ANY company and ANY produc.t
At this point, I would not wait for an AMD mATX, I would plan around Maximus V GENE.
Reviewers may not be the ones who buy them, but they are the ones who drive demand and who determine what is picked up by retailers. Reviewers understand they are premium boards and it's a premium brand for people who want the highest performance possible. Again: most car drivers don't drive Ferrari's but they could do. Yet Ferrari don't make a $20k family SUV.
The ROG MB team of product managers and designers is small and focused - it's had to grow by several people in the last year to manage and output as many boards as it had done (8 in 9 months is a new record).Last edited by _; 06-12-2012 at 08:31 AM.
